Those accusing Church of not helping migrants are 'misinformed' - Emigrants Commission

The Church provides accommodation to some 400 migrants in shelters across the country, according to the head of the Emigrants Commission. More than a month after the 1,500-page Egrant inquiry report was handed to the Attorney General, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has yet to make good on his promise to publish all the findings. On July 22, the Attorney General had released 49 pages of the report consisting of the main conclusions. Dr Muscat had immediately declared he would release the full report “within a few days”. Four dead as bus plunges off bridge in Finland

Four people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus collided with five cars and plunged off a bridge onto railway tracks on Friday, Finnish emergency services said. The charter bus, carrying a party of pensioners, landed on its side below the bridge in the town of Kuopio in central Finland. The driver survived and told police brake failure caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The MSE Equity Price Index extended Thursday's gains as it added a further 0.37% to 4,306.126 points on Friday. The increase was mostly driven by the upsurge in the share price of FIMBank which outweighed the declines in BOV and Plaza. Prepare for a Valletta 2018 big bang

Hundreds of fireworks enthusiasts tonight will gather on the outskirts of Żurrieq to witness the firing of the largest ever petard manufactured in Malta. The ‘shell of shells’ as it is known will be let off from a barge some three kilometres off the coast of Wied iż-Żurrieq at around 10pm. The event is part of the Valletta 2018 cultural events. Żebbuġ residents will soon be able to receive nutritional health services at a public dispensary [berġa] in their town, Health Minister Chris Fearne said on Friday. A concert of heavy metal music will be held today at the Aria Complex in San Ġwann. The Austrian rail company ÖBB treated a tricky situation with a witty tweet after a passenger tried to bring his horse on board a regional express train.  'A horse gets on the train and the conductor asks... why the long face?' it joked. The owner of a number of massage parlours was given a two-year suspended sentence after he admitted to using them as a brothel. Four Colombian women who worked there of their own volition were also charged with prostitution. 21,000 plastic bottles collected at beer festival

Over 21,000 plastic bottles and 2,000 caps were collected through a fun initiative by recycling cooperative GreenPak and environmental NGO Żibel at the Farsons Beer Festival. With the support of the Farsons Foundation, GreenPak and Żibel came up with PlastiKAXXA – whereby patrons at the Beer Festival were able to dispose of their crushed plastic bottles and cups in seven containers made from re-used nets and wood that were dotted around the site. Over 1,000 signatures have been collected in support of the controversial €55-million Central Link project meant to alleviate traffic congestion in Attard village core.
