Hip hop legend and marijuana aficionado Snoop Dogg says he’s going to stop smoking. In message posted to social media, the rapper and entrepreneur asked fans to respect his privacy at this time. He didn't provide many details on the announcement, and representatives did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' requests for comment. But that didn’t stop ample speculation from fans, many of whom were caught off guard by Snoop’s decision in the comments. Some wondered if the 52-year-old would... Читать дальше...

Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko also told a news conference Friday that they haven't ruled out a hate crime but do not have evidence to make the charge against 50-year-old Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji in the death of 69-year-old Paul Kessler. US labor board delays new employment rule after business groups sue

The federal government is delaying a new rule that could make it easier for millions of workers to unionize after business groups sued. The National Labor Relations Board says the rule, which was scheduled to go into effect next month, will now be effective Feb. 26 to give it time to resolve legal challenges. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business groups sued the NLRB last week over the so-called “joint employer” rule. The rule could potentially require companies like McDonald's or Amazon to bargain with workers... Читать дальше...

Climate change in Texas school textbooks is causing friction in America's biggest oil and gas state

How science textbooks in Texas address climate change is at the center of a key vote. Some Republicans on the Texas State Board of Education have criticized them for being too negative toward fossil fuels in America’s biggest oil and gas state. The vote on which textbooks to approve is expected to take place Friday. Texas has more than 1,000 school districts and none are obligated to use textbooks approved by the board. But the endorsements carry weight. The National Science Teaching Association... Читать дальше...

IBM pulls ads from Elon Musk's X after report says they appeared next to antisemitic posts

IBM has stopped advertising on social media platform X after a report said its ads were appearing alongside material praising Adolf Hitler and Nazis. It's a fresh setback as the site formerly known as Twitter tries to win back big brands and their ad dollars. A Swedish hydrofoil ferry seeks to electrify the waterways

Many cities around the world see clean and efficient public transport as a crucial way to lower their carbon emissions. For cities with waterways, a high-tech ferry in Sweden could soon set a new standard. Speeding through Stockholm’s archipelago, electric boat maker Candela’s new P-12 vessel barely makes a sound as it flies over a meter (3 feet) above the water. Its developers hope the boat, which was unveiled this week, will yield a new era of waterborne public transport. The P-12 is still in testing... Читать дальше...

At talks on cutting plastics pollution, plastic credits are on the table. What are they?

As countries meet in Nairobi to negotiate a treaty aimed at cutting plastics pollution, one of the tools that's been discussed is plastic credits. Those work a bit like the carbon credits that many fossil fuel companies have purchased to try to balance greenhouse gas emissions. With plastics, the concept involves companies or peoples paying for a specified weight of plastic to be collected somewhere in the world — giving them a credit to produce or use an equivalent amount of plastic. A report published... Читать дальше...

China's agreement expected to slow flow of fentanyl into US, but not solve overdose epidemic

China has agreed to curtail shipments of the chemicals used to make fentanyl, the drug at the heart of the U.S. overdose epidemic. Experts say it's an essential step, but it's not the only thing needed to be done to stem the crisis. The potent lab-produced opioid has replaced heroin in some parts of the U.S., is also used to make counterfeit pills, and is also laced with drugs such as cocaine. It's largely made in Mexico with chemicals from China. Scholars fear that cartels will find new synthetic drugs — that may be even deadlier. Читать дальше...

New York judge lifts gag order that barred Donald Trump from maligning court staff in fraud trial

A New York appeals court judge has paused a gag order that barred Donald Trump from commenting on court staffers in his civil fraud trial. The trial judge had imposed the gag order last month and later fined Trump $15,000 for violations after the former president made a disparaging social media post about a court clerk.
