Police have released a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Detroit synagogue leader. The suspect's lawyer, Allison Kriger, confirmed the release but declined to elaborate further. No charges have been filed in the case. Samantha Woll was president of Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue. She was found dead outside her Detroit home on Oct. 21, hours after returning from a wedding. Police believe the attack occurred inside her home. Police announced Wednesday that a suspect was in custody.

In the face of human-caused climate change impacting water access and weather patterns in the Willamette Valley — a region known for hops growing — farmers are using all the new strategies they can get to stay afloat and provide for large and small breweries alike. The credit rating agency Moody’s Investors Service has lowered its outlook on the U.S. government’s debt to “negative” from “stable.” In a statement Friday, the agency cited the cost of rising interest rates and political polarization in Congress for its move. Moody’s retained its top triple-A credit rating on U.S. government debt, though it is the last of the three major credit rating agencies to do so. An additional 1.2 million chickens will be slaughtered after bird flu was confirmed on an Iowa egg farm in the second massive case this week. It comes just days after nearly 1 million chickens were killed on a Minnesota egg farm. Iowa's governor immediately declared a disaster to make sure the state can respond quickly. The ongoing outbreak began early last year and has led officials to kill nearly 63 million birds. Nearly all of those were killed last year. A man has been arrested in the alleged assault of former U.S. Sen. Martha McSally who says she was molested as she jogged along the Missouri River in Iowa. Council Bluffs police said in a statement that the 25-year-old suspect from Papillion, Nebraska, was spotted by officers in Omaha, Nebraska, at 3:23 a.m. Friday and arrested. A Texas judge has denied Republicans’ efforts to overturn election results in the nation’s third-most populous county. Harris County, where Houston is located, is a Democratic stronghold that’s been beset by GOP efforts to dictate how ballots are cast.
