Casino and hotel giant MGM Resorts International says a cybersecurity issue led to the shutdown of computer systems at its properties across the U.S. A statement Monday from the Las Vegas-based company said the incident began Sunday and the extent of its effect on reservation systems and casino floors was not immediately known. South Dakota regulators have denied a permit application for a proposed carbon dioxide pipeline project. Monday's vote dealt a fresh setback to Summit Carbon Solutions for its proposed pipeline network across five states. The proposed network would carry planet-warming carbon dioxide emissions from more than 30 Midwest ethanol plants for permanent storage underground in North Dakota. Authorities continue searching for an escaped murderer who broke out of a southeastern Pennsylvania prison 11 days ago. A state police spokesperson says officers are preauthorized to use deadly force the escapee is found and does not surrender. The search for 34-year-old Danelo Souza Cavalcante was ongoing Monday, after he slipped out of the search area and changed his appearance over the weekend. Stellantis is reporting progress in talks with the United Auto Workers union with just three days left before contracts expire with Detroit’s three automakers. Human resources chief Tobin Williams told employees in an email that the union made counteroffer to its economic proposal on Sunday Stellantis plans to respond to that on Monday morning. The British scientist who led the team that cloned Dolly the Sheep in 1996 has died at age 79. The Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh announced Ian Wilmut's death on Monday. Wilmut set off a global discussion about the ethics of cloning when he announced that his team at Roslin had cloned Dolly using the nucleus of a cell from an adult sheep. Europe's economic outlook just took a turn for the worse. The European Union's executive commission on Monday cut its forecast because high inflation is still discouraging consumers from spending money. The European Commission now expects economic growth of 0.8% this year for the 20 countries that use the euro currency. The old forecast was for 1.1% growth. A Southern California school district will pay $2.25 million to settle the latest lawsuit involving a teacher who became pregnant by one of at least two students she was accused of sexually abusing. The Southern California News Group says Sunday tjat settlement brings to $8.25 million the amount paid by Redlands Unified School District to Laura Whitehurst’s victims since her 2013 arrest. Officials say a pit bull puppy that California police believe got into its owners’ fentanyl stash was administered the overdose-reversing drug naloxone and is recovering. Irvine police say the dog’s owners, a man and a woman, were arrested and could face charges including drug possession and animal cruelty. Police say the woman told officers it was the second time the dog had overdosed. Authorities will hold on to the puppy until there is a hearing to determine whether to give the dog back to its owners.
