The head of the United Auto Workers warned that the union plans to go on strike against any Detroit automaker that hasn’t reached a new agreement by the time contracts expire next week. A strike against all three major automakers — General Motors, Stellantis and Ford — could cause damage not only to the industry as a whole but also to the Midwest economy, and could lead eventually to higher vehicle prices. A liberal group has filed a lawsuit to bar former President Donald Trump from the primary ballot in Colorado. The lawsuit contends Trump is ineligible to run for the White House again under a rarely used clause in the U.S. Constitution aimed at candidates who have supported an “insurrection.” The lawsuit, citing the 14th Amendment, is likely the initial step in a legal challenge that seems destined for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Tom Brady is putting on a Delta Air Lines uniform, at least figuratively. Delta said Wednesday that it has agreed to bring the former star quarterback on board as a long-term strategic adviser. The European Union is targeting six Big Tech companies including Amazon, Apple and Microsoft under new digital rules aimed at reining in the market power of online companies. Authorities in southern Brazil say at least 27 people have died after a fierce storm caused floods in several cities. The governor of Rio Grande do Sul state says rescue efforts were expanding farther west with helicopters headed to the Rio Pardo Valley. More than 60 cities have been battered by the storm since Monday night and the death toll is the state’s highest from a climate event. The Rio Grande do Sul state government says at least 1,650 people have been made homeless by the storm.

A coalition of environmental groups is suing Utah's government for, in its view, failing to stop the Great Salt Lake from shrinking at an alarming pace. Organizations including the Sierra Club and the Center for Biological Diversity allege that the streams and creeks that should be filling the lake are being diverted for new development and industry. Roku is cutting about 10% of its workforce, or 360 people, and it will limit new hiring as it cuts costs to stem a series of quarterly losses. Two suburban Philadelphia school districts are shuttered and one of the nation’s premier botanical gardens is closed as authorities hunt for a convicted murderer who escaped from prison. Danelo Cavalcante has been spotted five times since he escaped Thursday from the Chester State Prison. Lawyers for a former Michigan police officer are asking the state appeals court to throw out a murder charge in the killing a Black motorist in 2022. The court is scheduled to hear arguments Wednesday in the case against Christopher Schurr. He shot Patrick Lyoya in the back of the head after a traffic stop in Grand Rapids. In a bid to slow down deforestation in the Amazon, Brazil will provide financial support to municipalities that have reduced deforestation rates the most. The announcement was made Tuesday by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change during the country´s Amazon Day.
