Open Society Foundations will spin off its support for Europe’s Roma communities into a new foundation to which it has pledged €100 million or around $107 million. OSF said Tuesday that the new Roma Foundation for Europe will launch in January and will be independent of OSF going forward. A federal judge in New York City has ruled that evidence shows a company whose after-market triggers can make semiautomatic AR-15-style rifles fire like automatic weapons fraudulently misled consumers that the devices were legal. The judge issued a preliminary injunction barring North Dakota-based Rare Breed Triggers from selling any more of its forced-reset triggers until further notice. The U.S. government is taking a big step toward forcing a defiant Tennessee company to recall 52 million air bag inflators that could explode, hurl shrapnel and injure or kill people. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday said it has made an initial decision that the inflators made by ARC Automotive Inc., and under license by another company, are defective. Britain’s Conservative government is lifting restrictions that have effectively banned the building of new onshore wind farms. Rules introduced in 2015 by then-Prime Minister David Cameron allowed a single objection to a wind turbine application to block its development. The regulations led to a dramatic decline in the number of new turbines granted planning permission. A three-judge panel has blocked Alabama’s new congressional map after lawmakers failed to create a second district where Black voters at least came close to comprising a majority, as suggested by the court. TikTok says operations have started at the first of its three European data centers, part of the popular Chinese owned app’s project to ease Western fears about privacy risks. The video sharing app said Tuesday it started migrating European user data to the data center in Dublin. Two more data centers, one in Ireland and another in Norway, are under construction.
