The United Nations says International donors have promised Monday almost $1.5 billion in additional aid to conflict-stricken Sudan. Attending Monday's session in Geneva were representatives from Egypt, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the African Union and the European Union. Officials say multiple tornadoes swept through Mississippi overnight, killing one and injuring nearly two dozen. State emergency workers are still working with counties to assess the damage from storms in which high temperatures and hail in some areas accompanied tornadoes. The death and most injuries have been reported in the town of Louin in east Mississippi’s Jasper County. George Gedda, an Associated Press reporter whose coverage of the State Department and international relations spanned more than four decades, has died. He was 82. Gedda played a major role in explaining U.S. foreign policy to the American public from Vietnam to Cuba, Afghanistan and Iraq. He was also the author of three books, including one on his time as an AP diplomatic correspondent, one on Cuba’s communist revolution, and one on his first love, baseball. He died Sunday while in hospice care in central Florida.
