Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles is changing its name to Peacock Theater and the open-air plaza next to it will be known as Peacock Place. The changes take effect July 11 as part of a multi-year naming rights deal between Peacock, NBCUniversal’s premium streaming service, and sports and live entertainment giant AEG. The deal announced Thursday is Peacock’s first naming rights agreement. The 7,100-seat theater hosts concerts and special events, including the Emmy Awards. The 40,000-square-foot plaza will change its name from XBOX Plaza.

New figures show that New Zealand’s economy has dipped into recession as higher interest rates take their toll. Statistics New Zealand said Thursday that gross domestic product fell by 0.1% in the March quarter, following a revised 0.7% fall in the previous quarter. Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike Randolph says efforts to attach him to a lawsuit challenging a new state law are a “circus” with “no legal precedent in U.S. history.” Randolph has been named a defendant in the lawsuit challenging House Bill 1020. The Wisconsin Legislature has passed a compromise designed to prevent Milwaukee from going bankrupt that also boosts funding for all other smaller communities in the state.
