The Cedarburg company contracts with Harley-Davidson to service the machines that create motorcycle parts. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Tulane University institute dedicated to brain science has received a pledge of $1 million to endow a research fund. The pledge to Tulane's Brain Institute was made by the Priddy Family Foundation to establish the Priddy Family Spark Research Endowed Fund. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Birmingham is offering amnesty for those facing traffic tickets or misdemeanor court cases. Mayor Randall Woodfin says anyone with traffic or parking tickets or misdemeanor cases through Municipal Court can now get a "fresh start." Al.com reports Birmingham's "Fresh Start" Amnesty Program began earlier this week and continues through Sept. 17. During the two-month period, tickets can be paid without late fees or arrest. SEATTLE (AP) — A 45-year-old former Maple Valley man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for producing and possessing child pornography. U.S. Attorney Annette L. Hayes says Stephen Schmidt pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in April, admitting that he raped and molested two young children. Hayes says Schmidt took photos of the molestation and kept them on his electronic devices. She says Schmidt also molested a 13-year-old child and a young child in Lewis County, Washington. SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A federal agency is getting an influx of funding to repair beach erosion and other damage to the Georgia coast caused by recent hurricanes. The Army Corps of Engineers said in a news release that Congress has approved supplemental funding that includes $13 million for renourishment of the beach on Tybee Island near Savannah. Another $26.6 million will pay for repairing dikes used to contain dredge material in the Savannah harbor as well as the removal of shoaling that's caused shallow spots in portions of the harbor. TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Drivers in New Jersey saw prices at the pump dip a bit last week, which analysts call part of a nationwide trend of instability. AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in New Jersey on Friday was $2.90, down a penny from last week. Motorists were paying $2.33 for gas in New Jersey at this time last year. The national average gas price Friday was $2.85 a gallon, down from $2.89 last week. MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — Ten participants in Skagit County drug court tested positive last month for a drug called kratom, putting their status in the jail alternative program in jeopardy. Drug court is designed to rehabilitate those with substance use disorder who are facing drug charges. Participants must abstain from mood or mind altering substances or risk termination from the program. BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Senate has approved a bill aimed at assisting individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia and their families. The bill was approved unanimously by the Senate on Thursday. It now heads back to the Massachusetts House. GOLDSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Larry Monk just wants his father's remains back where they belong, beside those of his mother in a cemetery in eastern North Carolina. Monk learned in June that his father's vault has been missing from its place in Elmwood Cemetery in Goldsboro for nearly two years. The family only learned about it when Monk's sister went to put flowers on the grave on Father's Day.
