LONDON (AP) — The British supermarket chain Sainsbury's says it has agreed to buy Walmart Inc.'s U.K. unit, Asda, for 7.3 billion pounds ($10.1 billion) in cash and stock in what would mark a seismic shift in the country's grocery market. J Sainsbury plc, the chain's corporate name, says it will give Walmart 4.3 billion pounds worth of stock and 2.98 billion pounds in cash for Asda. RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — An effort by North Carolina civil rights groups and citizens opposing Republican policies at the North Carolina General Assembly is returning to where it began five years ago. Movement organizers planned a get-out-the-vote rally late Monday on state government's Halifax Mall in Raleigh. The mall has been a frequent meeting point for the demonstrators before entering the Legislative Building to perform civil disobedience. RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginians can start weighing in on whether they believe the water quality approvals granted for two natural gas pipelines are adequate to protect the state's waterways. The Department of Environmental Quality made available on Friday information and instructions for a 30-day public comment period about the water permits for the Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines. HONOLULU (AP) — City officials plan to send Honolulu police into state-owned Kakaako Waterfront Park and adjacent parks to clear an estimated 80 homeless people from the grounds. Monday night's planned sweep is the culmination of officials' efforts to bypass jurisdictional limitations. City officials have been working with the Hawaii Community Development Authority to transfer ownership of the parks to the city. (AP) — The Havasupai Tribe says three animal abuse cases in its tribal court have ended in convictions since the tribe promised last year to make animal-cruelty offenses a top priority. The Arizona Daily Sun reports that two other individuals have also had animal cruelty charges filed against them in the past month. (AP) — A Rhode Island judge says DNA evidence obtained by pepper-spraying an inmate, strapping him to a chair and swabbing the inside of his cheek should not be allowed at his upcoming murder trial. Judge Robert Krause ruled this month that corrections officers used "unreasonable force and violence" against inmate Malcolm Querido last year at a prison intake center in Cranston. SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — An 11-year-old boy accused of stealing a 68-year-old man's bicycle has been arrested in central New York. The man told Syracuse police that that he was walking with his bike Saturday afternoon when the boy tried to take it from him. He says he tried to resist, but the boy punched him in the head. Police later found the 11-year-old with the bike and arrested him on a third-degree robbery charge. He was released into the custody of a parent.

TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — After traveling through Mexico with great fanfare for a month under the Trump administration's watchful eye, nearly 200 Central American migrants attempting to seek asylum in the United States were stopped in their tracks when border inspectors said that a crossing facility didn't have enough space to accommodate them. BEIJING (AP) — Taiwan is mourning the deaths of five firefighters and two Thai migrant workers in a weekend blaze at a computer equipment factory. The official Central News Agency said the fire broke out Saturday night at the plant belonging to Chin Poon Industrial in the city of Taoyuan outside the capital, Taipei.
