SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — A woman who authorities say was a big player in the illegal drug trade in Spearfish has been sentenced to serve five years in prison. Prosecutors say 33-year-old Terry Geib sold methamphetamine to many others and also allowed her apartment to be used for dozens of additional drug deals. TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — After traveling through Mexico with great fanfare for a month under the Trump administration's watchful eye, nearly 200 Central American migrants attempting to seek asylum in the United States were stopped in their tracks when border inspectors said that a crossing facility didn't have enough space to accommodate them. PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine firm is set to receive a $300,000 grant to work on a scallop farming technique that has helped the valuable shellfish grow faster in Japan. Coastal Enterprises Inc. will receive the money via The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, which is a nonprofit corporation set up by the farm bill in 2014. Democratic Rep. PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Highway Patrol says Interstate 95 has reopened in both directions after smoke from a brush fire forced the closing of a 17-mile stretch. Troopers reopened the highway in Brevard County on Florida's Atlantic coast after much of the fire was contained. Crews from the Florida Forest Service and Palm Bay and Brevard County firefighters began fighting the fire near the Micco Scrub Sanctuary on Sunday afternoon. Some local roads were also closed because of the fire.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans boosted their spending by 0.4 percent in March, the best showing in three months. Meanwhile, a key gauge of inflation closely watched by the Federal Reserve rose at the fastest pace in more than a year. The Commerce Department says the March increase in consumer spending followed two months of very weak readings with no gain in February and only a 0.2 percent increase in January. KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Latest on violence in Afghanistan (all times local): 4:50 p.m. Romania' defense minister says eight Romanian troops were wounded in an attack in southern Afghanistan after an explosion hit their vehicle in Kandahar province. Mihai Fifor says the eight, from the "Carpathian Eagles," were wounded on Monday when an improvised explosive device went off in the vehicle they were traveling in. WASHINGTON (AP) — US consumer spending rebounded 0.4 percent in March, while annual inflation up 1.9 percent.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Gas prices are still on the rise in northern New England, reflecting a national trend. GasBuddy's daily survey of gas outlets in Vermont found that the average retail gasoline prices in the state have risen 4.6 cents in the past week, to an average of $2.80 per gallon. Prices have risen 3.6 cents in the past week in both New Hampshire and Maine. The price in New Hampshire was $2.73 a gallon, and it was $2.81 in Maine. LONDON (AP) — The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator has urged faster action on the fraught problem of the Irish border, saying there should be agreement by June on a way to keep it open. WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — No animals were hurt and no buildings damaged when 20 large hay bales caught fire near the Central Livestock yard in West Fargo. Winds gusting more than 40 mph fanned the flames Sunday evening. Fire departments from West Fargo, Harwood, Mapleton and Horace responded to the scene. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. West Fargo Fire Chief Dan Fuller says there might have been a flare-up from a waste pile that was recently burned.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The jury that convicted Bill Cosby at his sexual assault retrial said that its decision was only influenced by what happened in court, and the youngest member of the panel said that the comedian's own words sealed his fate. Harrison Snyder said in an interview aired Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America" that it "wasn't an open and shut case." NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court for aiding in a terror plot. Nader Saadeh (nah-DAYR' sah-DAY') pleaded guilty in 2015 to conspiracy to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization. He's facing a maximum of 15 years in prison when he appears in a Newark court on Monday. Saadeh's brother, Alaa, received a 15-year sentence in 2016. Prosecutors said Nader Saadeh helped his brother get a plane ticket to travel overseas to join the Islamic State group.

BANGKOK (AP) — The editor of a political magazine who was convicted of insulting Thailand's monarchy has said on his release from prison that he will join public demonstrations to call for elections and an end to military rule. Somyot Prueksakasemsuk, a labor activist, was detained in 2011 for publishing two pseudonymous articles in his now-defunct Voice of Thaksin magazine, which he launched in 2009 to provide news to supporters of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a 2006 military coup. FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) — State police say a 24-year-old woman has died in an early morning crash in Farmington. Police say Sherryann Jamila Haylett, of Bloomfield, was heading east on Interstate 84 at about 1:30 am. Monday when her car went off the highway, struck a guard rail and came to rest against some trees after going down a small embankment. Haylett was pronounced dead at the scene. OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) — Traffic at McDonald's restaurants was surprisingly strong during the first quarter, pushing the world's biggest burger chain far past Wall Street expectations. The company, based in Oak Brook, Illinois, posted earns of $1.38 billion, or $1.72 per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax expenses, came to $1.79 per share, which is way better than the per-share earnings of $1.67 that industry analysts had projected, according to a poll by Zacks Investment. Protesters flocked to a central street on Monday, which is a public holiday in Russia, to rally against authorities' move to block parts of the internet in Russia. GUILFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut State Police have arrested an 18-year-old man they say led officers on a 40-mile, high-speed pursuit with three juveniles in his stolen car. Police say the chase started at about 3 a.m. Monday in Westport. The car went onto Interstate 95 north and at one point the occupants abandoned the vehicle and got into another car. COLUMBUS, Wis. (AP) — A male suspect in a domestic dispute was found dead after a standoff with police in Columbus. Officers responded to a home Sunday after getting a call from a person involved in a domestic violence incident who had fled to a neighbor's house. Authorities say the man refused to leave the residence and that loud banging noises could be heard. MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) — A man who shot a woman during a party at his New Jersey home two years ago is now headed to prison. Burlington County prosecutors say 44-year-old Darren Winningham received a 10-year sentence Friday. The Riverside man had pleaded guilty last month to aggravated manslaughter in the April 2016 death of 35-year-old Nikita Cross. The Galloway Township woman was shot in the chest during the party. SAN ANTONIO (AP) — With drivers beginning to take note of rising prices at the pump, Marathon Petroleum is buying the refiner and pipeline owner Andeavor for more than $23 billion, creating a refiner with an extensive reach across the U.S. Crude oil prices are hovering at the levels not seen in three years and are expected to climb higher, pushing up gasoline prices along the way.
