ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont teacher's union has voted to ratify a new contract that includes a $4,000 pay increase. The Caledonian Record reports the St. Johnsbury Education Association voted Wednesday to approve the new contract through 2019. The school board was scheduled to review the contract on Monday night. Vermont National Education Association representative Matthew Polk says the contract includes new health insurance benefits and a salary schedule that will help keep and attract teachers to the town. BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck Public Schools employee who holds a new position as a cultural responsive coordinator is visiting every elementary school to help students learn more about Native American heritage. There are nearly 1,100 Native American students in Bismarck schools, or about 8.6 percent of the student population. The students represent about 50 different tribes. Travis Albers says he's found some Native American students aren't fully aware of their cultural background and want to know more about their heritage.

The National Alliance of Theatre Owners (NATO) released the average ticket price for the first quarter of 2018 on Monday, reporting an average of $9.16 cents. This is an increase of 19 cents from 2017’s annual average of $8.97, and a 32 cent increase year-over-year from the Q1 2017 average of $8.84. YORK, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say one person has died after a dust storm triggered a 29-vehicle accident along an interstate in eastern Nebraska. The Nebraska State Patrol says visibility was reduced to nearly zero Sunday as dust blew in from farm fields along Interstate 80 near York, a city about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) west of Lincoln. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio's capital city say an officer fatally shot a suspect while responding to a stabbing at an apartment complex that killed one woman and injured another. CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The latest financial forecasts indicate that Wyoming's state revenue collections continue to slowly improve. The Consensus Revenue Estimating Group released its April report Friday, providing an updated summary of the state's major revenue sources. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former death-row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal asked a judge Monday to vacate his previous failed appeals attempts so he can again appeal his case. A judge continued the hearing until Aug. 30 after a document Abu-Jamal's defense said they need to prove their petition was not found. DENVER (AP) — Rep. Doug Lamborn is asking a federal judge to put him back on the Republican primary ballot. The Colorado Supreme Court bounced the six-term congressman from the ballot earlier this month. The high court ruled that because some of the people who collected signatures for Lamborn didn't live in Colorado the signatures are invalid. Lamborn sued last week. BRAINTREE, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have made an arrest in the death last summer of a 19-year-old woman at a Braintree hotel. The Norfolk district attorney's office announced Sunday that 19-year-old Juana Rivera, of Lynn, is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge Monday on Norfolk Superior Court in the June 22 death of Reina Rodriguez. Rivera was arrested Friday. Police say Rodriguez, of Lawrence, was found dead inside a room at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Braintree. Investigators haven't released details of Rodriguez's death. DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A Dubuque mobile home park owner accused of bypassing water meters to save thousands of dollars has been sentenced to two years of probation. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that Michael Friederick paid the city $110,000 in restitution before sentencing. He'd entered an Alford plea to a charge of theft. In an Alford plea, a defendant doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a jury to reach a guilty verdict. Friederick also was given a suspended jail sentence of 180 days. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Four people were shot during an annual weekend celebration that attracts college students to Virginia Beach just before exam week. The Virginian-Pilot reports that the shootings happened between Friday night and early Sunday morning during College Beach Weekend. On Friday night, a man was shot near the Convention Center. JUBA, South Sudan (AP) — Ten aid workers have been released after being abducted in South Sudan almost a week ago, said the U.N. on Monday. Three U.N. staff and seven aid workers, all South Sudanese nationals, went missing last week when their convoy traveling in Central Equatoria province was hijacked. The aid workers, employed by a variety of organizations including the South Sudanese Development Organization, ACROSS, Plan International and Action Africa Help, were flown back to Juba by the International Committee of the Red Cross. NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) — Hundreds came to honor a police officer in the Arizona border city of Nogales who police say was killed while trying to stop a carjacking suspect. The Arizona Republic reports officers, family members, friends and community members attended a vigil Sunday for Nogales police officer Jesus "Chuy" Cordova at the site where he was killed. Police say Cordova died Friday after a suspected carjacker fatally shot him during a traffic stop. Authorities say the suspect carjacked two more vehicles before being arrested. Читать дальше...
