DICKSON, Tenn. (AP) — The father of a missing 5-year-old boy in Tennessee has been charged with his son's murder. Authorities said Saturday that Joseph Ray Daniels was arrested and charged with one count of criminal homicide. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says authorities determined that the boy, Joe Clyde Daniels, was killed either Tuesday night or early Wednesday in the family's residence. A powerful storm driven by an atmospheric river originating deep in the Pacific has dumped more than double the average rainfall for the entire month of April in San Francisco, forecasters said Saturday. The storm began Thursday night and continued steadily throughout Friday. It is expected to taper off Saturday afternoon. CHICOPEE, Mass. (AP) — A student from Joseph Estabrook Elementary School has taken top honors in the 2018 Massachusetts National Geographic State Bee. Fifth-grader Atreya Mallanna will represent Massachusetts in next month's final round in Washington D.C. The bee, held Friday at Elms College, had over 100 fourth-to eighth-graders competing to make it to the final round. Atreya won a prize of $200, a visual atlas and a trip to compete in Washington. COVINNGTON, Okla. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey reports that Oklahoma recorded a magnitude 4.6 earthquake that was also felt in Kansas and Missouri. It was one of four earthquakes in northwest Oklahoma on Saturday morning. COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Motorists in northern Kentucky will start paying less at the gas pumps when reformulated gas goes away on July 1. The Kentucky Enquirer reports that drivers pay about 15 cents more per gallon in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties compared to Ohio. Brent Cooper, president and CEO of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, says more than $41 million in savings is expected next year for gas consumers in the three counties. FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) — The remains of a gunner whose plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean during World War II have been identified and returned to his sister in Ohio after 73 years. A funeral for Ora Sharninghouse Jr. was scheduled Saturday in Findlay, where his 84-year-old sister, Joan Stough, lives. She was 11 when he went missing in action in 1944. BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a man found a handgun on the floor at a town hall forum hosted by U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer at Olympic College. BOSTON (AP) — A new study says the Boston Symphony Orchestra is making an increasingly noteworthy impact on the state economy. Williams College economist Stephen Sheppard says performances at Symphony Hall in Boston, Tanglewood in the Berkshires and the Boston Pops' annual Independence Day concert on the Esplanade bring in more than $261 million to Massachusetts. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two men convicted in connection with a wide-ranging investigation into organized crime in western Massachusetts face sentencing. Giovanni Calabrese and Ralph Santaniello are scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Worcester. TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gas prices in New Jersey and across the nation inched up this week as they continue their spring rise. AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas Friday in the state was $2.69, two cents higher than last week. Motorists were paying $2.36 a gallon at this time last year. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Books donated by the Library of Congress will make their way to a public library in Henry County. U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (BOOS'-tohs) will stop at the Western District Library in Orion on Monday. She will deliver books donated by the venerable depository in the nation's capital. HUNTERTOWN, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana conservation group is seeking donations to replenish a fund it exhausted buying land that's now protected from development. The Huntertown-based ACRES Land Trust needs nearly $97,000 in donations for its revolving fund that's set aside for land purchases. Teams have been designing, building and programming robots to compete on a virtual field in a competitive video game Saturday and Sunday at Hartford Public School. It is a preliminary round in competition put on by a New Hampshire nonprofit group called FIRST, or For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Four teenagers charged after a sandbag thrown from an Ohio highway overpass killed a Michigan man have been sentenced to a program at a youth treatment facility. Police say the boys, who were then 13 or 14, threw rocks and sandbags onto Interstate 75 near downtown Toledo in December. SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A former Salem-Keizer teacher has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing two students over 10 years. The Statesman Journal reports 40-year-old Shane Ross was sentenced Friday in Marion County. Court records say investigators learned of the sexual abuse after one of Ross' victims told a friend that one of their middle school teachers had sexually abused her from 2009 — when she was 12 years old — until she graduated high school in 2015. AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The Maine Senate has confirmed a new director of the Maine State Housing Authority that serves more than 90,000 people in the state.
