PARIS (AP) — The French government is making changes to the military force that was created to protect sensitive sites after the deadly extremist attacks on France in 2015. French Defense Minister Florence Parly said the number of troops involved in the Sentinelle operation would remain at 7,000 under the plan. But she says their assignments will be made with a greater focus on temporary and seasonal events. MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) — Google faces a new lawsuit accusing it of gender-based pay discrimination. A lawyer representing three female former Google employees is seeking class action status for the claim. The suit, filed Thursday in San Francisco Superior Court, follows a federal labor investigation that made a preliminary finding of systemic pay discrimination among the 21,000 employees at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California. DOVER, Del. (AP) — An Arizona-based pharmaceutical company targeted in lawsuits and criminal investigations over its marketing of a highly addictive painkiller has filed a related patent-infringement lawsuit against a rival drug maker. Insys Therapeutics filed the complaint against Teva Pharmaceuticals on Wednesday in federal court in Delaware. TORONTO (AP) — A transgender Chilean actress has turned in one of the most buzzed-about performances of the year and some are hoping she could be the first trans actor to land an Oscar nomination. Southern Arizona economic leaders are sending Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos a giant saguaro cactus ahead of Tucson's proposal to become the future site for the company's second headquarters. NEW YORK (AP) — UPS is introducing all-electric delivery trucks to its U.S. fleet. Daimler Trucks said Thursday that United Parcel Service Inc. is its first U.S. customer for the Fuso eCanter light-duty truck. UPS said it will use three of the trucks at various locations. The Fuso eCanter can drive 62 miles on a charge. Daimler says the truck will save UPS $1,000 for every 6,000 miles it travels compared to a conventional diesel truck. ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is fining the Niagara Falls Water Board $50,000 for discharging black and smelly water near the falls during a busy tourist weekend. Gov. Andrew Cuomo traveled to the falls Thursday to announce the penalty. The Democrat says the Water Board will also be required to make changes at its aging wastewater plant and get state approval before making any future discharges. WASHINGTON (AP) — Long-term U.S. mortgage rates were unchanged this week, leaving the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate at the lowest level this year. Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac says the 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 3.78 percent. While the same as the previous week, that is down sharply from this year's peak of 4.3 percent, reached in March.
