CHICAGO (AP) — United Airlines said Friday that it has a tentative deal to combine more than 8,600 maintenance workers from United and the former Continental Airlines under one contract, a step toward improving the carrier's rocky labor relations. Oscar Munoz, who became CEO Sept. 8, and Brett Hart, who was named acting CEO on Monday after Munoz suffered a heart attack, had both said it was a priority to finish the combined labor deals with mechanics and flight attendants.

More than 33,000 stuffed toy dragons from Build-A-Bear are being recalled this week because the stuffing can pop out and pose a choking hazard for young children. NEW YORK (AP) — A fired police officer accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the driveway of her New Jersey home threw himself in front of a New York City subway and was in a hospital Friday, a prosecutor said. Strong quarterly earnings from several big-name technology companies helped push U.S. stocks higher in midday trading Friday. GALLUP, N.M. (AP) — Details are sketchy but authorities say there are no reported injuries from a freight train derailment in northwestern New Mexico. Sgt. Chad Pierce of the New Mexico State Police said Friday that initial reports indicate 20 to 25 rail cars derailed in the accident just east of Gallup. Pierce said officers at the scene are still gathering information about what the cars' cargo. A BNSF Railway spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for information about the accident.
