LAS VEGAS (AP) — A federal court jury in Nevada has ordered a Las Vegas-based software maintenance firm and its chief executive to pay a little more than $50 million in damages to technology giant Oracle in a copyright infringement lawsuit. The verdict delivered Tuesday against Las Vegas-based Rimini Street Inc. and CEO Seth Ravin followed a two-week trial in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas. The automaker is recalling about 3,300 big pickup trucks and SUVs mainly in North America to fix the ignitions, which can get stuck in the "start" position and slip into "accessory" if jostled. GM recalled 2.6 million cars worldwide such as the Chevrolet Cobalt to fix the faulty switches, which are responsible for crashes that caused 169 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The recall covers some 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickups, as well 2015 heavy-duty pickups and the 2015 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe SUVs.

HOUSTON (AP) — Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. this week declined by eight to 787. Houston's Baker Hughes said Friday that 595 rigs were seeking oil and 192 explored for natural gas.

NEW YORK (AP) — Los Angeles Clippers owner and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has bought a 4-percent stake in Twitter, a vote of confidence in the struggling messaging company. The company's shares lost about half their value between late April and late August as investors worried about Twitter's disappointing financial performance and slowing user growth. According to FactSet, Ballmer's holdings would make him the third-largest individual owner of Twitter shares after company co-founder Evan Williams and bin Talal.

Washington State (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12) is 2-1 on the road this season, with their lone loss coming by a touchdown at No. 23 California. NEW YORK (AP) — Google is not violating copyright laws by digitizing books for a massive online library, a federal appeals court ruled Friday in a decadelong dispute by authors worried that the project would spoil the market for their books. WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. manufacturing production fell for the second straight month in September as factories cranked out fewer appliances, computers, and electronics. Overall industrial production, which includes mining and utilities, fell 0.2 percent, also its second straight decline. Mining output plunged 2 percent as energy companies sharply reduced oil and gas drilling. LONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization says there were two new cases of Ebola in Guinea this week, ending two consecutive weeks in West Africa when no cases of the devastating disease were reported. The two new patients were not previously identified contacts being tracked by health authorities, suggesting that officials are still unable to monitor everyone exposed to Ebola.

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. employers advertised fewer job openings in August and kept hiring flat, another sign the American jobs market has lost strength since spring. "The labor market is coming off the boil a little," Paul Ashworth, chief U.S. economist at Capital Economics, wrote in a research report.
