General Motors' CEO Mary Barra said the company will immediately begin testing self-driving cars on public roads in Michigan.

Barra made the announcement at a press conference held at GM's Renaissance Center headquarters in Detroit. The press conference was streamed on Facebook Live.

GM is currently testing 40 self-driving Chevy Bolts, its electric car, on the streets of San Francisco and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Verizon has reversed a decision not to disable Galaxy Note 7 phones still in use via a software update.

The wireless carrier updated its support page for the Galaxy Note 7 on Thursday, saying it would start pushing out the software update on December 19. Once installed, Galaxy Note 7 owners won't be able to charge the phone's battery, rendering it pretty much useless.

One of the reported highlights of the NBA's tentative new collective bargaining agreement is a change in contract extensions for star players.

British bank branch closures are continuing apace, according to the BBC.

New research by Which?, the leading UK consumer organization, has shown that 1,045 branches have closed in the last two years — HSBC closed 27% of its branches, while Lloyds closed 14%. The smaller Co-operative Bank closed a whopping 53% of its branches.

A federal jury has convicted Dylann Roof of the racially motivated slayings of nine black church members in South Carolina in June 2015.

The jury of nine white people and three black people deliberated for less than two hours before returning a verdict. They convicted the 22-year-old white man on charges of hate crimes, obstruction of religion, and using a weapon to murder.

Longtime NBA sideline announcer Craig Sager died on Thursday. He was 65.

Sager was beloved in NBA circles and the sports world more broadly. He was known not just for his bold sartorial choices, but also for his terrific sideline interviews. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in April 2014.

BOSTON (AP) — It is now legal in Massachusetts for adults to possess, grow and use limited amounts of recreational marijuana.

A hotel lobbying group in France has succeeded in getting the country’s parliament to tighten tax laws on rental income in an effort to slow Airbnb’s growth in the country, The Financial Times reports.

The law will require Airbnb to send tax data to the French government, rather relying on individual hosts who use the service to provide it.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bernie Sanders' office says the Vermont senator had a small basal-cell carcinoma removed from his cheek in an outpatient procedure.

Basal-cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer. Sanders' office says the procedure was completed Thursday and the senator returned to work afterward.

Sanders' office says he's later returned to Vermont.

President-elect Donald Trump appointed Fox News commentator Monica Crowley to his National Security Council team on Thursday.

Crowley has been a Trump supporter since early in his campaign.
