A man accused of killing an 86-year-old and injuring three other people in a series of apparently random shootings while riding a scooter in New York City has been arraigned on charges including murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors say Thomas Abreu was arraigned Monday in a hospital in five shootings that occurred in Queens over about 10 minutes Saturday. A state-court judge has ordered Kansas to stop allowing transgender people to change the listing for sex on their driver’s licenses. A jury has been selected in Michigan in a dispute over the estate of music superstar Aretha Franklin. Before that, a judge narrowed the issues, saying the only task at trial is to decide whether a 2014 document handwritten by the Queen of Soul can be accepted as a valid will. The European Union has signed a free trade agreement with New Zealand that the two sides expect will increase bilateral trade by up to 30% within a decade. The New Zealand government said it expects to gain up to 1.8 billion New Zealand dollars ($1.1 billion; €1 billion) in exports to the 27-country bloc every year. The European Commission says the deal, brokered over five years, will cut NZ$248 million ($153 million; €140 million) a year in duties.
