Reliever Santiago Casilla has pitched for a Bay Area team in each of the past 15 seasons, including this one. His tenure with the A’s apparently has come to an end. Amid several moves by Oakland on Saturday, the most significant was the team designating Casilla for assignment. Casilla, who turns 38 on July 25, has had two stints (2004-09, 2017-18) with the A’s, sandwiched around his time with the Giants (2010-16). The right-hander has a 3.16 ERA in 311/3 innings over 26 appearances this season.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Latest on the fatal shooting of a man by Chicago police (all times local): 8:10 p.m. Chicago police say a man fatally shot by an officer was "exhibiting characteristics of an armed person" and officers tried to question him. Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted that when officers on foot tried to question the man Saturday evening a confrontation ensued and he was shot. Former Cal wide receiver Demetris Robertson says he is transferring to Georgia, returning to his home state.
