(AP) — A suspect was killed and an officer shot and wounded after a DUI traffic stop at a Wal-Mart in Dallas on Friday "escalated," police said. Oregon State Police Lt. Bob Charpentier said in a brief statement to news outlets Friday night that an adult male suspect was shot after the situation escalated at about 5:45 p.m. Three Dallas Police officers were investigating the man for a DUI-related incident, according to police.

Harold Gilliam, environmental journalist and advocate, dies Harold Gilliam, one of the first environmental journalists in the country, author of newspaper columns and 11 books on the natural world of the Bay Area, died Wednesday in San Francisco after a long illness.
