Fox News has appointed Kevin Lord as the network’s executive vice president of human resources following a wild 2016 that saw former CEO and co-founder Roger Ailes step down amid sexual harassment allegations. (AP) — A husband and wife who married in Mexico in 2007 have been arrested on suspicion of murdering another woman who the man married in California so the man could get legal permission to stay in the U.S., authorities said Wednesday. (AP) — An executive order issued by Louisiana's governor that was aimed at protecting the rights of LGBT people in state government was thrown out Wednesday by a judge who said the governor exceeded his authority. NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a 1-year-old boy has died and two adults have been seriously injured in a Brooklyn high-rise fire. The fire broke out at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in a 13th floor kitchen at the Howard Houses in Brownsville. Police say the toddler, Ivan Baez, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say two women are accused of stealing cellphones from people at several gym facilities around Phoenix. Phoenix police say 43-year-old Bonnie Herbert and 24-year-old Eboney Herbert each have been booked into jail on suspicion of assault, theft, shoplifting and endangerment.

Wednesday marked the first visit to a cultural heritage site seized back from the Islamic State group for UNESCO, the world body's cultural organization, and perhaps a sign of what lies ahead in Iraq and Syria. Salih estimated that around 60 percent of the site was a total loss, but was encouraged by the giant piles of rubble because, she said, that means some of the antiquities could be relatively safe beneath the dirt and bricks — as opposed to looted.

Symptoms include fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes. "Pregnant women and their health care providers need to understand there is a risk" for infected women who never seemed to get sick, she said Wednesday. (AP) — School officials would have to consider certain factors before expelling or suspending a student under softer "zero-tolerance" laws that were approved Wednesday in the Michigan Legislature, where energy and auto insurance bills were in doubt in the closing days of the term. The legislation would take effect for the next academic year and would require school administrators to consider a pupil's age, disciplinary history, the severity of the misconduct and if the behavior threatened another student or staff member's safety. WACO, Texas (AP) — A grand jury has indicted another person for his alleged involvement in the biker shooting last year at a Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco that left nine dead. The jury's action means there are now 155 bikers who've been indicted as a result of the May 2015 exchange of gunfire between two rival gangs that also left 20 people hurt.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal prosecutors have charged two former pharmaceutical executives with fixing prices of generic drugs, part of an ongoing government investigation into anticompetitive tactics by companies that make lower-cost drugs intended to reduce medication costs. The Department of Justice accused two former Heritage Pharmaceuticals executives of conspiring to fix prices, rig bids and avoid competing with other drugmakers in marketing two generic drugs.

Many in Silicon Valley were among Trump's sharpest critics during the campaign, expressing concerns his policies could stifle innovation and compromise digital privacy. David Byrne’s experimental theater project to open Dec. 20 A few months ago, The Chronicle interviewed artist and musician David Byrne about a new immersive theater piece he and collaborator Mala Gaonkar planned to launch in Menlo Park on Oct. 27. The project hit technical problems, and the exhibition did not open to the public. “Due to an unfortunate algorithm glitch, a small doll took over our show for a few weeks, and we had to keep humans out,” reported the artists in an email, who sent their message with a fitting photograph.

“The Hunger Games” star appeared on CBS’ “The Late Late Show With James Corden” on Tuesday and shared a heartwarming family anecdote — about how she shot a photo with her mother while urinating.
