Quincy University cuts 14 jobs as it faces $5M budget hole (AP) — Quincy University in western Illinois has cut 14 non-faculty positions in an effort to fix a $5 million budget shortfall. The schools's financial consultant, Tom Ponto, says the goal is to return the private Catholic liberal arts university to "financial equilibrium."

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — The Stanford marching band has been temporarily suspended through next spring after a panel found repeated violations of school policies. The punishment announced Friday comes after the band was barred from performing at away games during the 2015-16 season for violating policies on sexual harassment, alcohol, controlled substances and hazing. ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis County police say a man was grazed by a bullet in the lobby of a high school gym during a basketball game. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://j.mp/2gmdP85) the gunfire erupted Friday night in the Bayless High School gymnasium when students were playing a game against Affton High School. Police spokesman Benjamin Granda said the suspected gunman escaped in a car. He says the victim "appears to have been specifically targeted," and no injuries beyond the graze wound were reported. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The University of Minnesota will not ask prospective students about felony convictions starting in fall 2018 after pressure from student leaders and the Obama administration. The university will continue to ask prospective students on applications if they have been convicted of sex offenses or if a previous school has punished them for academic dishonesty, The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/2gq3gS8) reported. The app asks all prospective students of convictions and pending charges for misdemeanor and felony crimes.

(AP) — Pittsburg State University plans to appeal a recent federal jury decision that awarded $230,000 to a former employee who accused another university employee of sexually harassing her. A jury in U.S. District Court in Kansas found this fall that Pittsburg State violated Martha Fox's civil rights and awarded her $230,000. According to court records, Fox, a former custodial specialist, claimed a supervisor sexually harassed her starting in 2012.

The paper said the statistics come from a new website launched by State Comptroller Kevin Lembo intended to give the public easier online access to up-to-date pay information for state employees. A state police spokeswoman said 27 percent of the overtime in 2015 came from shifts at highway construction sites which is paid by construction firms and doesn't count toward police pension calculations.

(AP) — Scott Mertie is an accountant, beer memorabilia collector and the author of "Nashville Brewing," a book which chronicles the history of Music City's beer industry. By high school, he had a collection of some 3,000 beer cans, including ones his dad would bring him from international travels. Most people thought of Gerst as the oldest beer and really the only Nashville beer, Mertie said, referring to the longtime brewing company that operated until 1954.
