ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A federal appeals court on Friday struck down Maryland's first-in-the-nation law against pharmaceutical price gouging. In a 2-1 ruling, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the law is unconstitutional because it forces manufacturers and wholesalers to act in accordance with Maryland law outside of Maryland, burdening interstate commerce. (AP) — An online pharmacy that bills itself as Canada's largest was fined $34 million Friday for importing counterfeit cancer drugs and other unapproved pharmaceuticals into the United States, a sentence that one advocacy group called too light for such a heinous crime. Canada Drugs has filled millions of prescriptions by offering itself as a safe alternative for patients to save money on expensive drugs, and its founder, Kristian Thorkelson, has been hailed as an industry pioneer for starting the company in 2001. Many doctors recommend them, but fish oil supplements failed to help people with dry eye when put to a scientific test. About 14 percent of U.S. adults have dry eye, which causes pain and vision problems. It's more common in women and with age, and is related to inflammation. Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil may reduce inflammation, so doctors thought they might help more than the artificial tears, eyedrops and other treatments patients use now. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A minivan driver plunged in the vehicle off a California cliff Friday and into the ocean but managed to get out of the wreckage and walk on rocks to a rescuer who rappelled down to him, authorities said. NEW YORK (AP) — A task force will study the U.S. Postal Service under an executive order from President Donald Trump, who has spent weeks criticizing online retailer Amazon and accused it of not paying enough in shipping costs. The order doesn't mention Amazon by name, but Trump has tweeted that the company should pay the post office more for shipping its packages. She tells them she has no intention of hurting herself or others. HOUSTON (AP) — The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. increased by five this week to 1,008. At this time a year ago there were 847 active rigs. Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes reported Friday that 815 rigs drilled for oil this week and 192 for gas. One was listed as miscellaneous. WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. businesses posted fewer open jobs in February than the previous month when openings reached a record level, though layoffs fell. The Labor Department said Friday that openings fell 2.8 percent to 6.05 million, down from 6.23 million in January, the most on record dating back to 2001.
