WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. workers are increasingly benefiting as employers struggle to fill millions of open jobs. More people who had given up looking for work are renewing their job hunts, more employees are confident enough to quit to look for other jobs and pay is gradually picking up. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A court is allowing antitrust litigation against health insurer Blue Cross Blue Shield to proceed. HOUSTON (AP) — The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. increased by 10 this week to 1,003. At this time a year ago there were 839 active rigs. Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes reported Friday that 808 rigs drilled for oil this week and 194 for gas. One was listed as miscellaneous. Among major oil- and gas-producing states, Oklahoma added five rigs. New Mexico tacked on three, while Kansas and Texas each gained two. WASHINGTON (AP) — US consumers increased their debt by just 3.3 percent in February, the weakest monthly change in nearly seven years despite an otherwise healthy economy. The Federal Reserve said Friday that consumer borrowing rose $10.6 billion in March to nearly $3.9 trillion. The gains have slowed sharply from a 10.3 percent jump in debt levels in November. CHICAGO (AP) — Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Friday painted a mostly sunny view of the U.S. economy and said the Fed remains committed to raising its key interest rate gradually. In his first speech as Fed leader, Powell noted that the central bank raised its key rate by a quarter-point at its March meeting, just the sixth increase since late 2015.
