A fire at a garbage collection facility in San Francisco sent smoke wafting into southern parts of the city and across Highway 101 during the morning commute Tuesday, authorities said. Residents around the area, including in the Bayview-Hunters Point and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods, were warned to stay indoors and keep windows closed to limit exposure to the smoke. CHICAGO (AP) — The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has reported the first cold-weather related death of the season in the Chicago area. The 52-year-old man was pronounced dead Saturday morning about 10 minutes after he was discovered on the city's far South Side. An autopsy determined that exposure to the cold contributed to the man's death that was the result of a pulmonary embolism due to deep vein thrombosis. WASHINGTON (AP) — A man who fell onto Metro train tracks in the nation's capital is suing a restaurant that he says served him too much alcohol. News outlets report Patrick Augusma is suing Maggiano's Little Italy for negligence. He says it's the eatery's fault that he suffered facial fractures and head trauma when he fell last year.
