CLARKSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Officials say a natural gas explosion in western Pennsylvania destroyed a home and sent a family to a hospital burn unit for treatment. The home of the White family building burst into flames when Cody White went to turn on the stove around 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the suspected cause is a methane leak. BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A $30 million fix for Burlington's aging sewer system is up for a vote next week. The bond proposed on Tuesday's ballot aims to improve water pollution safeguards and to reduce the risk of beach closures. The Burlington Free Press reports Department of Public Works spokesman Rob Goulding says the department is opting to fast-track repairs if the bond is approved by voters. WESTMINSTER, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Board of Education has voted to force a school merger between three boards, rejecting a recommendation from the secretary of education to leave the towns alone. Westminster School Board Chair David Major said Tuesday he attended the board meeting and was present for the vote. Major tells the Brattleboro Reformer that the vote flies in the face of local votes in Westminster, Grafton and Athens. All three towns voted overwhelmingly against merging schools in 2017. JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Navy divers interviewed on Indonesian television say they've recovered the crashed Lion Air jet's flight recorder from the sea floor. TV stations on Thursday showed images of the device which was transferred from an inflatable vessel to a ship in a large white container. Two navy divers described finding the device and bringing it to the surface. One said the fuselage of the plane was also seen. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane crashed Monday just minutes after takeoff from Jakarta, killing all 189 people on board.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Officials in Dayton say two elementary school students were evaluated by medics after ingesting a gummy form of a sleep aid. Dayton Public Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli says a Belle Haven Elementary School student brought in ZzzQuil gummies to share with two friends. WHIO-TV reports the gummies contained melatonin and medics were called when two of the students reported feeling sick. NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut school officials say they are investigating recorded audio of what is purported to be a New London High School teacher discussing the details of making a noose. The teacher is heard on the audio recording going into detail about how a noose could kill someone. The Day reports the teacher's identity has not been confirmed. WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago woman who, with her husband, is accused of confining a daughter to their basement is seeking visitation rights to their children. Katherine Swopes is currently confined to her Waukegan home with a no-contact order regarding her children. The 49-year-old Swopes and her husband, Randy, is charged with child endangerment and unlawful restraint for keeping their 10-year-old daughter in a basement room for months.
