Willie McCovey, the Hall of Fame first baseman who spent 19 of his 22 major-league seasons with the Giants and became one of the most beloved players in franchise history, has died at the age of 80. McCovey died at Stanford Hospital Wednesday afternoon of what the team called “a battle with ongoing health issues.” He had been in a wheel chair for many years and had a serious infection four years ago that nearly took his life. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A state program devoted to finding new markets for Indiana-grown foods is aiming to expand Hoosier school districts' access to local foods. Indiana Grown is working with three partners on a local food resource guide school that school food service directors will be able to consult to make more informed purchasing decisions. (AP) — A protest broke out Wednesday in Portland, Oregon, after a grand jury said two police officers who fired 12 shots at a 27-year-old black man were justified in the fatal shooting. Patrick Kimmons was hit nine times and was pronounced dead at a hospital on Sept. 30. His mother slammed the grand jury decision as family members and others gathered to protest outside the courthouse. Hulk Hogan has been selected by WWE to host their Saudi Arabia event “Crown Jewel,” the entertainment company told TheWrap. Hogan’s appearance will be his first with WWE since a tape of him making racist remarks was made public during the wrestler’s defamation lawsuit against Gawker in July 2015. BOSTON — A Mafia hit man who is said to hate “rats” is under suspicion in the slaying of former Boston crime boss and longtime FBI informant James “Whitey” Bulger, who was found dead hours after he was transferred to a West Virginia prison, an ex-investigator briefed on the case said Wednesday. The former official said that Fotios “Freddy” Geas and at least one other inmate are believed to have been involved in Bulger’s killing. 1 Suspect indicted: The white man accused of opening fire in a Kentucky grocery store and parking lot, killing two black people, was indicted Wednesday on murder charges, but it’s too soon to determine if the death penalty will be sought, a prosecutor said. The suspect, Gregory Bush, 51, was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of murder stemming from the attack at a Kroger store in suburban Louisville last week. GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — The Latest on an oilfield explosion in Wyoming (all times local): 5:10 p.m. A highway in northern Wyoming has reopened after an explosion at an oilfield site. Campbell County Sheriff's officials say the blast happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday. They say a medical helicopter was headed to the area but they had no information about any injuries.
