BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's election commission says the result of its recount of ballots from May's parliamentary elections doesn't alter the overall outcome of the vote. The commission completed earlier this week its recount from the vote which was marred by allegations of fraud and irregularities. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's population continues to balloon, but since 2005 its physician-to-patient ratio has remained "pretty darn flat" despite efforts to attract more doctors to the state. That's according to Tabor Griswold of the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine, who also is coauthor of a June report that examined the state's medical provider workforce. PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona prosecutors say a state grand jury has indicted the former business manager for the Western Arizona Vocational Education District for allegedly stealing district monies. The Arizona Attorney General's Office says that between November 2011 and August 2016, Deborah Long is accused of keeping payments made by parents and others to the district, making personal purchases with WAVE credit cards and increasing her salary without authorization. NORTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) — There have been times, especially early on after he left Venezuela, that Daniel Hernandez felt overwhelmed, lost, out of place. "I've gone through a lot," said Hernandez, who migrated here in 2015 given the increasing political and economic unrest in Venezuela and now lives in North Ogden. "I felt depressed. HONOLULU (AP) — A former Big Island resident was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for stealing nearly $863,000 over four years from her Hawaii employer. Donna Alms was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Honolulu after pleading guilty in January to charges of wire fraud and money laundering. The 55-year-old Alms, who now lives in Las Vegas, had worked as an operations specialist for Waste Management of Hawaii. ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A state report shows the number of deadly opioid overdoses in Alaska increased again with the powerful painkiller fentanyl linked to a larger portion of the deaths last year. KTUU-TV reports the preliminary numbers from the state Department of Health and Social Services show that 108 Alaska residents died from opioid overdoses in 2017, a number that has been steadily rising over the past seven years. BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — Police in Massachusetts say five vehicles have been vandalized in a commuter rail parking lot. Darcie Fisher tells WCVB-TV her husband's SUV was one of the five vehicles that was vandalized at the Campello Station lot in Brockton. Fisher says the SUV's window was shattered and some spare change was stolen. Fisher called the incident a "minor problem" but added that cameras should be installed in the commuter lots. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A southern Washington state father who violently shook his infant son to get him to stop crying has been sentenced to more than three years in prison. KATU-TV reports 31-year-old Brooks Hamilton was arrested on first-degree child assault charges in February after the 4-month-old baby sustained a traumatic brain injury. According to authorities, Hamilton picked up the baby by the head and shook him. The child's mother called police when she returned home. Family members say the baby is still recovering. CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey State Police say a tractor trailer collided with a construction vehicle. WPVI-TV reports the crash happened around 10 p.m. Thursday on Route 295 in Cherry Hill. Police aren't sure how the two vehicles collided. No injuries were reported. Police blocked off the southbound lanes on Route 295 near the crash. No further details were available.
