LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — A prosecutor has announced plans to seek the death penalty against the man charged in the 1992 sexual assault and strangulation of an elementary school teacher in Pennsylvania. LNP newspaper reports that the Lancaster County district attorney's office gave notice last week of intent to seek capital punishment if 49-year-old Raymond Rowe is convicted of first-degree murder. FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Hundreds of gun-control protesters have been joined by survivors of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting at a rally outside National Rifle Association headquarters. Family members of those killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February addressed the crowd during Saturday afternoon's "National March on NRA" rally in Fairfax. HONOLULU (AP) — The Hawaii representative of a Philippine-based church is accused of trying to smuggle hundreds of thousands of dollars aboard a private jet. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports an indictment by a federal grand jury charged Felina S. Salinas Thursday with bulk cash smuggling for failing to report that she was carrying $335,000 in U.S. currency and $9,000 in Australian dollars in February. CHICAGO (AP) — A 57-year-old woman has Saturday after a dog mauled her on the city's far south side. The Chicago Tribune reports that a police officer shot and killed the dog Saturday when it charged responding officers. Authorities say the woman was attacked by a dog described as a pit bull about 2:30 p.m. She was bitten on the neck and throughout the body. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not released. Police say the owner of the dog is unknown.

MOSCOW — A Russian helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff Saturday in Siberia, killing all 18 people aboard, mostly oil workers, authorities said. The Interstate Aviation Committee, which oversees civil aviation in much of the former Soviet Union, said the Mi-8 helicopter collided with the load being carried by another helicopter. LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a reality television star from the series "My 600-lb Life" has been found dead at a South Carolina home. James "LB" Bonner was 30. A Lexington County Sheriff's Department incident report states that deputies performing a welfare check found Bonner dead from a gunshot wound Thursday. It didn't appear foul play was involved. BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been arrested on several charges for allegedly striking a pedestrian with a car, fleeing the scene and then leading officers on a foot chase. Police say a 31-year-old man, whose name they have not released, was speeding before hitting a pedestrian in the neighborhood of Dorchester on Friday night. He left the scene, and the victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are life-threatening. The man crashed into three parked vehicles soon after, and tried to flee on foot. GREENVILLE, Maine (AP) — The Maine Warden Service says it has found the body of a Massachusetts man whose empty boat was discovered near the shore of an island on Moosehead Lake. The Portland Press Herald reports that divers recovered the body of 66-year-old Robert Hammond, of Hanson, Massachusetts, on Saturday. It was unclear how he ended up in the water. An autopsy will be performed. The boat was found in shallow water Friday. Wardens went to Hammond's campsite at Spencer Bay and learned that he had not been seen since Thursday.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — University of Texas System regents have chosen the former chancellor of the City University of New York as the sole finalist to be the next chancellor of the 14-campus system in Texas. STANDISH, Maine (AP) — A Maine college is getting support from the National Science Foundation to try to encourage more students in the state to go into science education. The foundation is giving Saint Joseph's College in Standish about $103,000 to support a scholarship program that helps students pursue careers as science teachers. The scholarship also helps to link graduates with high-need school districts in the state.
