A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was killed Friday after being struck by a driver while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Fairfield, officials said. The officer was identified as Kirk Griess out of the Solano CHP office. CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — First his Hollywood star, now his New Hampshire granite. New Hampshire State Police say someone smashed a granite block inscribed with President Donald Trump's name early Friday. The block had been part of a display along the sidewalk outside the State Library that showcases winners of the New Hampshire presidential primary. MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — A Marysville man is in the hospital after he was struck by gunfire in a drive-by shooting. KIRO-TV reports the man was near a Shell gas station in downtown Marysville at 12:30 a.m. Friday when a car drove by slowly and the passenger opened fire. James Kuo says Reynaldo Almonte knocked a phone out of his hands and grabbed his neck during Thursday night's debate. FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A man accused of fatally shooting Florida police officer and then taunting other officers has been indicted on first-degree murder charges. Court documents say 29-year-old Wisner Desmaret was fleeing officer Adam Jobbers-Miller after stealing a cellphone July 21 when he appeared to surrender. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A government report says Kansas farmers are forecast to harvest more than twice as much corn than wheat this year. The National Agricultural Statistics Service forecast on Friday Kansas corn production at 658 million bushels, about 4 percent below last year's crop. The crop is expected to be harvested off 5.1 million acres this fall. (AP) — A Pennsylvania health aide who authorities say poured scalding water on a disabled man in his care, leaving him with burns on 20 percent of his body has been sentenced to serve up to five years in prison. HARFORD, Conn. (AP) — A video shows a police sergeant in Connecticut telling a group that he was "trigger happy" and would get overtime pay if he has to shoot someone. The Hartford Police Department said Friday that Sgt. Stephen Barone has been placed on administrative leave and an internal affairs investigation is underway.
