SEATTLE (AP) — Authorities say the number of intoxicated drivers arrested while children are in the car is rising in western Washington state. KING-TV reports Washington State Patrol says District 8 troopers have made 30 DUI arrests with minors present this year. That number is typically the average for an entire year. Wake Forest assistant men’s basketball coach Jamill Jones threw a punch that led to the death of a New York tourist who apparently mistook him for an Uber driver, police said. Jones pleaded not guilty to an assault charge Thursday and was released on his own recognizance. Jones, 35, attacked Sandor Szabo around 1:15 a.m. Sunday in Queens, causing him to fall and hit his head on a sidewalk, police said. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man has been sentenced for a second time to life in prison for the death of his accomplice in a burglary. News outlets report that a Palm Beach County judge resentenced 38-year-old Christopher Dean Thursday. He was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life, but the Florida Supreme Court ordered a new sentencing last year. HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — The Seminole Tribe of Florida plans to eliminate plastic straws at its six casinos in the state. Seminole Gaming announced in a news release this week that its casinos, which include Hard Rock locations in Tampa and Hollywood, would shift to earth-friendly drinking straws by next month. They're also switching to paper carryout bags. CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame and Wall of Valor have inducted four new members. The West Virginia Airport Managers Association said an installment ceremony was held this week in Clarksburg. The Hall of Fame inducted Samuel J. Frankman and James R. Griffith. The Wall of Valor inductees are Brent S. Cole and Herbert C. Wheeler. HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — The U.S. Senate may award a Congressional Gold Medal to the women portrayed in the 2016 film "Hidden Figures." The Daily Press reported Wednesday that the award would go to Katherine Johnson and Christine Darden, and posthumously to Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan. BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Montreal man who admitted smuggling about 100 handguns into Canada across the Vermont-Quebec border is facing up to 20 years in federal prison when he is sentenced. Alexis Vlachos is scheduled to appear Friday in federal court in Burlington. Last January he pleaded guilty to the smuggling charges. Some of the handguns were left in the bathroom of a library that straddles the border between Derby Line, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec.
