WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — School officials have decided to consolidate three high schools into one in a northeastern Pennsylvania community. The Wilkes-Barre Area School Board was scheduled to vote Tuesday night on a long-running plan to consolidate Coughlin and Meyers high schools. But in a surprise move, the board voted 6-3 to include GAR Memorial in the plan. GAR is to become a middle school under the plan, which is expected to be concluded in 2022. The consolidation is still being challenged by residents who prefer neighborhood schools.

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (AP) — Two Saudi Arabian college students who drowned while trying to save two young children struggling in a Massachusetts river have been honored by their home country for their heroism. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A former Transportation Security Administration officer has been sentenced to 25 years in prison on drug trafficking conspiracy and gun charges. The U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release 50-year-old James Blunder of Charlotte was sentenced Tuesday after his conviction in July 2017. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — U.S. Department of Agriculture data shows that the value of farm real estate is up slightly in Wisconsin this year, but that the value of cropland is down. Wisconsin Public Radio reports that farm real estate includes the value of land and buildings. The department's National Agricultural Statistics Service found that the average price per acre in Wisconsin is $5,320, a 2 percent increase from 2017. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Department of Natural Resources' board has unanimously approved an emergency rule that requires deer farms to upgrade fences in an effort to slow chronic wasting disease. The rule calls for deer farms that have had a CWD infection to install a second fence or solid barrier. CWD-free farms would have three options: add a second fence, add a solid barrier or add an electric fence. Farmers would have a year to comply.
