COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Candidates across South Carolina have only a little bit more time to file for this year's elections. Filing closes at noon today for races including governor, the U.S. House and all of South Carolina' statewide constitutional offices. Gov. Henry McMaster faces four GOP challengers in his quest for a first full term. Three Democrats are also seeking their party's gubernatorial nomination. JENNINGS, La. (AP) — Authorities say a woman has been arrested after a 2-year-old boy was shot by an older child who found a loaded gun at a Louisiana home. The Advocate reports the boy has been released from a hospital after the bullet grazed a bone. A Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office statement says 33-year-old Summer Lane Chiasson was booked Thursday on a felony count of cruelty to juveniles. TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Tucson mother who fled with her 1-year-old daughter during a supervised visit two months ago has been located. Tucson police say 38-year-old Jeannette McCann Lopez and her daughter were found in Mexico on Tuesday. Authorities took custody of them at a port of entry in Nogales. The child, Jeannette Grado, appeared unharmed and in good condition. Lopez, who is five months pregnant, was booked into a Tucson jail on one felony count of custodial interference. PROVO, Utah (AP) — Dan McKown, Orem High School's resource officer, glances at the clock, first period is still in session. McKown heads out to walk the hallways for the first time that day. McKown estimates that he walks the entire school eight times a day. "It is about being seen," McKown said as he passes through the hallways and back to his office. HONOLULU (AP) — Mililani High School has the first state-approved imu, a traditional Hawaiian underground oven that starts with a pit and lots of rocks and ends with a slow-cooked Kalua pig. Hawaii News Now reported Thursday that the school recently used its new imu to cook a pig for public school lunch. ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A bill that has the potential to overwrite a ballot initiative planned for this fall's election has advanced in the Alaska Senate. The Juneau Empire reports that the Alaska Senate's state affairs committee on Tuesday approved a revised version of the bill that includes much of a so-called "good governance" ballot initiative. SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Police have charged two married teachers with the sexual assault of a student in Pennsylvania. The wife is a music teacher at a school in Scott, while the husband is a band director at a school near Carbondale. Police say the husband began a sexual relationship with the then 16-year-old girl before the two were married. BOSCAWEN, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery has plans for a new multimedia learning center. NH1 reports the Veterans Heritage Learning will capture the stories of New Hampshire veterans and the state's military history. The 1,200-square-foot center will include an interactive touchscreen, kiosks and a theater. Retired Brig. Gen. EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police say a Rhode Island high school was evacuated over a bomb threat. Authorities say East Providence High School was closed Thursday morning after the threat was called into the school. The jury deliberated for less than 24 hours before finding 25-year-old Shawn Yarbray not guilty Thursday of attempted murder among other charges in the 2017 stabbing of Republican Councilman David Oh. AVALON, N.J. (AP) — Officials say a bridge that connects two New Jersey shore towns will be closed for three weeks in order to replace its railing. The Press of Atlantic City reports the Townsends Inlet Bridge will close April 2. The new railing will be stronger and prevent cars from breaking through. This is the second of four construction phases. The northbound lane on the Avalon side of the bridge will be closed during the third phase. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A commuter train has crashed into a pole in Pennsylvania, causing several hours of delays. WPVI-TV reports one of the cars on a northbound Norristown High Speed Line train hit the pole near the County Line Station in Villanova Thursday around 5:30 p.m. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says service was suspended for about three hours afterward. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia church has gone up in flames days before Easter. More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze at the Original Apostolic Faith Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in North Philadelphia Thursday afternoon. A nearby off-campus apartment building that housed more than 120 Temple University students was evacuated, and subway trains were diverted from the area.
