NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say the 4-year-old daughter of a Tony-award winning actress was killed along with a 1-year-old friend when a driver slammed into them on a Brooklyn street. Ruthie Ann Blumenstein, who goes by the stage name Ruthie Ann Miles, was also injured in the Monday accident. Police say she was walking with a friend who had the infant in a stroller when the driver went through a red light and hit them. Blumenstein's daughter Abigail was killed. CHICAGO (AP) — A Cook County watchdog agency says a former top assistant to Sheriff Tom Dart was not entitled to the nearly $90,000 in health benefits that he took while he was on leave for more than four years to manage his own security firm. Inspector General Patrick Blanchard tells the Chicago Tribune that Julius "Jay" Rutili clearly violated the law by collecting the benefits while he was on personal leave. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A 10-year-old boy has been arrested after being found with a gun at a Little Rock elementary school. Lt. Michael Ford says authorities responded around noon Monday to reports of a gun at Baseline Elementary School. Ford says the unidentified student was found at the school carrying an unloaded gun and was arrested on a charge of possession of a weapon on school property. OUAGADOGOU, Burkina Faso (AP) — Authorities in Burkina Faso say they have arrested eight Burkinabe nationals in connection with last week's attacks on army headquarters and the French Embassy. Prosecutor Maizan Sereme announced Tuesday that two of the suspects are current soldiers. Another is a former soldier who was kicked out of the military after a 2011 mutiny. WASHINGTON (AP) — The national intelligence director says President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner's current access to secret information does not threaten U.S. national security. Kushner had been cleared to see "top secret/sensitive compartmented information" level for more than a year. But Kushner lost his access to the nation's deepest secrets when White House chief of staff John Kelly downgraded it over questions that arose during his background briefing. LEBANON, Ind. (AP) — The father of an Indiana man accused of killing a sheriff's deputy during a foot chase said he's more concerned about the deputy's family than his son. Robert Baumgardt told WTHR-TV that his son, Anthony Baumgardt, quit school, left home about five years ago and got caught up in drugs and related crimes. JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey driver who was speeding and high on PCP when his car went over a curb and fatally struck two teenagers on a sidewalk has been sentenced to 29 years in prison. Eric Paterson received separate 12-year sentences for vehicular homicide in the March 2016 deaths of Bryan Rodriguez and Noel Herrera, both 17. The 25-year-old Jersey City man also received a five-year sentence for aggravated assault on 17-year-old Manuel Sanchez, who was critically injured in the accident but has since recovered.
