CLARKSTON, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan State basketball recruit who's been barred from playing a final high school season is dropping his lawsuit against the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Thomas Kithier's best shot to get back on the court failed when a judge refused to reinstate him three weeks ago. With just weeks left in the season, he says he's dropping the case. DENVER (AP) — A Colorado sheriff's deputy shot and killed last week while chasing a suspect is being laid to rest. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday for 31-year-old Heath Gumm at Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette. Gumm is survived by his wife and parents. Authorities say Gumm and other deputies were called to a residential area north of downtown Denver on Jan. 24 for a reported fight and chased a man who ran behind a house. CHARLOTTE, Mich. (AP) — A father of three victims of Larry Nassar tried to attack the disgraced former sports doctor Friday during a court hearing in Michigan. After two of his daughters spoke, the father, Randall Margraves, asked the judge for "five minutes" in a locked room with Nassar. The judge said she couldn't do that. He then asked for one minute, and later said he was a "distraught father." The judge cautioned Margraves after he called Nassar a profanity. SAN RAMON, Calif. (AP) _ Chevron Corp. (CVX) on Friday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $3.11 billion. The San Ramon, California-based company said it had profit of $1.64 per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax gains, came to 73 cents per share. The results did not meet Wall Street expectations, but Chevron does not adjust its reported results based on one-time events such as asset sales.
