LONG BEACH, Wash. (AP) — Two women have died in separate incidents after they were caught in rough surf while digging for clams on ocean beaches in southwest Washington. Pacific County Sheriff Scott Johnson said on Facebook that the women were reported missing Friday around 9 p.m., roughly four minutes apart. EAST LYME, Conn. (AP) — A women's prison in Connecticut is offering inmates the opportunity to learn Braille so they will have a new job skill when they're released. The Day of New London reports that a select group of about 10 women will begin learning Braille at the York Correctional Institution in East Lyme. Other prisons have begun offering classes in Braille so participants can get jobs converting restaurant menus, textbooks and novels into Braille. CAYCE, S.C. (AP) — An Amtrak passenger train hurtling through the early morning darkness Sunday slammed into a freight train parked along a siding in South Carolina, killing two Amtrak crew members and injuring more than 110 people, authorities said. It was the third deadly wreck involving Amtrak in less than two months. The state health department says the Stop & Shop on Quaker Lane in Warwick is issuing a consumer alert regarding deli sliced meat and cheese because of potential exposure. Listeria is a bacteria that can cause fever and diarrhea, and more dangerous complications in pregnant women, including miscarriages and stillbirths. BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — A report says 35 manatees across Florida have died as a result of cold stress syndrome in January. The Bradenton Herald report s the deaths between Jan. 1 and Jan. 26 were tallied in a preliminary report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The commission says that was five times as many deaths compared to the same period in 2017. But it doesn't come close to the 151 manatees that died during a cold snap in January 2010. HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A state lawmaker says he'll try again to reform a program that allows inmates who behave well to get out of prison early. Republican Sen. Len Suzio, of Meriden, says he'll discuss ways to reform the Risk Reduction Earned Credit Program Monday. Last year, Suzio sought to exempt anyone from the program who was convicted of a violent or sexual offense. He says he's reintroducing legislation.
