PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Prosecutors are set to argue that criminal charges should be reinstated against the engineer in a deadly 2015 Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania's attorney general on Wednesday is appealing a judge's decision to dismiss the case against Brandon Bostian. Eight people died when the Washington-to-New York train rounded a curve at more than twice the 50 mph (80 kph) speed limit and hurdled off the tracks. BOSTON (AP) — Prosecutors and defense attorneys are seeking a 15-year prison sentence for a Rhode Island man who admitted to participating in a plot to behead a conservative blogger on behalf of the Islamic State group. Nicholas Rovinski, of Warwick, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Boston. Rovinski pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy for his role in a plot to kill New York resident Pamela Geller, who organized a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest in Garland, Texas, in 2015. CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — The rogue Venezuelan cop who staged an attack earlier this year on two government buildings in Caracas with a stolen helicopter has surfaced again. A video shared on Oscar Perez's Twitter account shows him participating in the apparent takeover of a military station. He and several other armed assailants hold a group of men dressed in army green shirts and pants in a small room with their hands tied behind their backs. HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — A man accused of sexually assaulting two female college students in Ohio in the vehicle he drove for his "Sherman's Safe Ride" taxi service has pleaded not guilty to rape and sexual battery charges. The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reports 38-year-old Sherman Jackson II pleaded not guilty Tuesday in a Butler County court in Hamilton. ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says it's time the state examines whether to do away with the practice of allowing employers to pay tipped workers less than the minimum wage. The Democrat announced the proposal as one of several measures on his 2018 agenda. He wants state labor officials to hold hearings on the so-called tipped wage, which is paid to restaurant servers and some other types of employees in service industries. HALLOWELL, Maine (AP) — Maine utility regulators are asking the state's two power companies to provide answers on their response to an October storm that left roughly half a million people without power. The Maine Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday launched an investigation of the utilities' preparedness and response to the Oct.29 rain and wind storm. BOSTON (AP) — The percentage of Massachusetts residents without health insurance remains well below the national rate. A new report released Wednesday by the state's Center for Health Information and Analysis found the rate of uninsured residents in Massachusetts during 2017 was 3.7 percent compared to an 8.8 percent rate of uninsured for the rest of the country based on early estimates.
