CANBERRA, Australia — An Australian lawmaker giving a speech on same-sex marriage proposed to his gay partner Monday during Parliament’s debate on a bill that is expected to soon legalize marriage equality across the country. Tim Wilson, a 37-year-old lawmaker in the conservative coalition government, was among the first lawmakers to join the House of Representatives debate and toward the end of his speech popped the question to his partner of seven years Ryan Bolger, who was watching from the public gallery.

BATH, Maine (AP) — The second in the U.S. Navy stealthy Zumwalt class of destroyers headed out to sea for the first time on Monday, departing from Navy shipbuilder Bath Iron Works for builder trials. The future USS Michael Monsoor carefully navigated the winding Kennebec River before reaching the North Atlantic. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Production is resuming next year on the sixth and final season of "House of Cards." Taping of the political drama was halted in October amid sexual misconduct allegations against star Kevin Spacey. Netflix Chief Content Office Ted Sarandos told a conference Monday of the decision, Variety reported. In November, Netflix said it wouldn't be involved with the series if Spacey remained. DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A Duke University journalism program has rescinded an award given to television host Charlie Rose in response to sexual harassment allegations. The DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy announced Monday that it was taking back the award given annually to outstanding journalists who graduated from Duke. CHICAGO (AP) — Residents of Chicago and the suburbs will be knitting and crocheting more than 20,000 tiny red hats for the Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign. The project provides more than 100,000 newborn babies in 43 states with handmade hats to raise awareness about congenital heart defects. Officials made the announcement Monday as the museum celebrates its centennial year. The 1931 piece titled 'Desert Abstraction' had been on loan for years from the Museum of New Mexico Foundation. MSNBC has decided not to renew its contract with contributor Sam Seder after an old tweet emerged in which Seder joked about Roman Polanski raping his daughter, TheWrap has learned. Seder’s contract ends in February and he has no scheduled appearances between now and then, a spokesperson for MSNBC told TheWrap. “Don’t care re Polanski, but I hope if my daughter is ever raped it is by an older truly talented man w/a great sense of mise en scene,” wrote Seder in the now deleted tweet from 2009. His family released a statement saying the Republican died Sunday night in Washington, D.C. Anderson served 10 terms in the U.S. House. He originally sought the Republican presidential nomination in 1980, but he later waged an independent campaign against Democratic President Jimmy Carter and Republican challenger Ronald Reagan.
