SEATTLE (AP) — Authorities say four people were sent to hospitals after a van left the street and hit a building in downtown Seattle. The accident happened just before noon Thursday and it appears the vehicle struck a Gap store. The conditions of the injured weren't known. The vehicle was a shuttle express van, which ferries passengers throughout the metro area. No other details were immediately available and police said they were investigating.

PHOENIX (AP) — A U.S. judge has permanently blocked an ethnic studies ban in Arizona public schools that dismantled a popular Mexican-American studies program, dealing a final blow to a law that he found to be racially motivated. Following a seven-year court battle, U.S. District Judge A. Wallace Tashima issued a final judgment Wednesday that prohibits Arizona education officials from enforcing the 2010 law, which stirred up more allegations of racial discrimination by a state that passed a landmark crackdown on immigration the same year. The 58-year-old crashed into the entrance of the Social Democratic Party's headquarters in Berlin on Dec. 24. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee man who spent more than 31 years in prison before new DNA evidence led to his rape and burglary conviction being overturned is asking the state for $1 million in damages. The Tennessean reports lawyers for 61-year-old Lawrence McKinney of Wilson County filed the request with the state Board of Claims on Thursday. RENO, Nev. (AP) — Prosecutors in Reno say a woman has been sentenced as a habitual criminal to 10 to 25 years in prison for convictions in several area thefts and property crimes. The Washoe County district attorney's office said Thursday that 37-year-old Charlotte Marie Hodges was sentenced Dec. 21 after pleading guilty in July in four burglary, possessing stolen property and credit card cases. SIMSBURY, Conn. (AP) — A barn fire at a Connecticut equestrian training and boarding farm has killed 24 horses. The fire at Folly Farm in Simsbury was reported Thursday morning and was extinguished within minutes as more than 30 firefighters from Simsbury and neighboring Avon responded in subfreezing temperatures. A posting on the farm's Facebook page says the horses died from smoke inhalation and there are no words to express the sorrow. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
