Thousands of Oakland city workers are set to go on strike Tuesday for an as-yet undisclosed period of time, city officials said. Two labor unions — Service Employees International Union Local 1021 and International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local 21 — informed the city Friday of their plans to strike next week. (AP) — The Latest on a police shooting at a California hospital (all times local): 8:10 p.m. Police say a suspect was the only person shot during an incident at a hospital in Bakersfield, California. Police said Friday in a Facebook post that officers have searched Bakersfield Heart Hospital and determined no one else had been shot. CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago-area judge who allowed a law clerk to preside over several traffic cases has been forced into retirement. The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Illinois Courts Commission ordered Cook County Circuit Judge Valarie E. Turner's immediate retirement Friday. A year ago, the Judicial Inquiry Board determined Turner suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Turner was taken off the bench after letting law clerk Rhonda Crawford hear cases.
