BOSTON (AP) — The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation is celebrating the winners of its John F. Kennedy Centennial Poetry Contest. Former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky is the scheduled keynote speaker at Saturday's event. Reynolds on Friday announced the appointment of Samantha Gronewald, of Urbandale, as district court judge in the Judicial District 5C, which covers Polk County. CAIRO (AP) — The lawyer for an Egyptian presidential hopeful living in the United Arab Emirates says he has been arrested at his home and will be deported to Egypt. BOSTON (AP) — Police say a man has been shot and killed inside a Boston grocery store. Officers responded to the market in the city's Dorchester neighborhood shortly after 11:45 p.m. Friday. The man, believed to be in his 20s, had been shot multiple times. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He wasn't immediately identified. Police Commissioner William Evans says the shooting doesn't appear to have been random. There's no indication that robbery was a motive. No arrests have been made. Police are investigating.

SEATTLE (AP) — A group of eastern Washington tribes is considering a name change to reclaim their indigenous identity. KUOW-FM reports that Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation's public affairs officer, Meghan Francis, said there's really no connection to the name Colville, a Scottish businessman best known for governing the Hudson Bay Company. Fort Colville was named for him. It was flooded during construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. His name was given to 12 bands that make up the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Earl Kimrey is being held on more than $1 million bond in the Onslow County Detention Center on charges that include concealing a death and obstruction of justice. Officials with the Capital Region Toys for Tots say the toy-delivering train will leave Binghamton on Saturday and make several stops as it heads to Albany. CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Helen Francisco was just 3 years old when her older brother, Shirley "Eugene" Bailey, died in World War II. He was one of 12 children in the family's home on the West Side of Charleston. He and two other brothers were drafted into the Army and fought in Germany at the same time. Francisco was too young to remember her brother, but she can still remember her mother's fight to bring him home after his remains went unaccounted for after the war. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A former South Carolina police officer will soon learn how long he'll spend in federal prison for the shooting death of an unarmed motorist following a traffic stop. Sentencing is scheduled to start Monday for Michael Slager. The former North Charleston police officer has been in jail since pleading guilty in May to violating Walter Scott's civil rights.
