BEIJING (AP) — Chinese and American officials meeting in Beijing agreed to set up a mechanism to work through an escalating dispute over trade at the end of talks Friday, Chinese state media said. But it said "big differences" remain on some matters. SEATTLE (AP) — Ichiro Suzuki's otherworldly talents made an early impression on Dave Niehaus, the Hall of Fame voice of the Seattle Mariners. During Suzuki's first month in the majors in 2001, Niehaus narrated a throw by Suzuki from right field that nailed Terrence Long at third base. In a way, Niehaus was also describing what Suzuki was about to bring to the major leagues for 18 seasons. FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — German automaker BMW AG saw first-quarter net profit rise slightly from an already high level as sales strengthened across all regions and the company's 5-Series sedan and X1 sport-utility logged double-digit increases. Net profit rose 1.2 percent to a record 2.301 billion euros ($2.757 billion), from 2.274 billion euros in the same quarter a year ago. HONG KONG (AP) — Global bank HSBC says pretax profits dipped in the latest quarter because of higher operating costs. The bank also said Friday that it's planning to buy back up to $2 billion in shares. It was its first quarterly earnings report under new Chief Executive John Flint, who took over in February.
