Microsoft still believes its $26 billion acquisition of LinkedIn will go quickly and smoothly.

(Reuters) - PayPal Holdings Inc reported a better-than-expected 18.1 percent rise in quarterly revenue, helped by a surge in payment processing volumes and customer additions.

PayPal, spun off from e-commerce company eBay Inc last year, said its revenue rose to $2.67 billion in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, from $2.26 billion a year earlier.

Net income rose to $323 million, or 27 cents per share, from $301 million, or 25 cents per share.

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said that Donald Trump is "eroding our democracy" during an interview at Vanity Fair's New Establishment Summit on Thursday.

Bezos expressed concern over the Republican nominee's accusations of mainstream media bias, threats to lock up Hillary Clinton, and refusal to accept the outcome of the presidential election if he doesn't win.

Lyft has hired its first strategy chief to help it wage its long-standing war with Uber. 

The San Francisco-based ride-hailing company announced on Thursdsay that it has hired Raj Kapoor as chief strategy officer and named Melissa Waters vice president of marketing.

Microsoft shares popped up to an all-time high of above $60 on Thursday as strength in its cloud business helped propel it past Wall Street financial targets in its fiscal first quarter.
