Central Tennessee residents and emergency workers are continuing the cleanup from severe weekend storms that killed six people and sent more to the hospital. Government officials confirmed that three people died after an apparent tornado struck Montgomery County north of Nashville near the Kentucky state line on Saturday afternoon. The U.S. Border Patrol says it is overwhelmed by a shift in human smuggling routes, with hundreds of migrants from faraway countries like Senegal, Bangladesh and China being dropped in a remote desert area in Arizona. Gregory Golodoff, the last survivor among 41 residents imprisoned in Japan after Japanese troops captured the remote Alaska island of Attu during World War II, has died. The invasion prompted the war’s only battle on North American soil. Golodoff died last month in Anchorage at age 84. His sister, Elizabeth Golodoff Kudrin, the second-to-last last living Attuan, died in February at 82. Japan invaded Attu in June 1942, when Golodoff was 3. Racist and homophobic remarks that Robert O'Neill made or is alleged to have made have fueled community opposition to the Armed Forces Brewing Company's plan to open a taproom and distribution center in Norfolk. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter that crashed in southeast Alaska during a rescue mission last month has been recovered. The Coast Guard says the helicopter was recovered Friday. An investigation into the Nov. 13 crash continues. The agency says all four crewmembers who were taken to Seattle for treatment have been released from the hospital. The Coast Guard previously described two of the crew members’ injuries as serious. The crash was reported by the fishing vessel that was the subject of the helicopter's search and rescue mission.
