U.S. and Israeli authorities say a small western Pennsylvania water authority was just one of multiple organizations breached by Iran-affiliated hackers who targeted a specific industrial control device because it is Israeli-made. In an advisory emailed to The Associated Press late Friday, the officials say the victims spanned multiple U.S. states. They did not quantify or otherwise describe them. The Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa was hacked a week ago.

A gun factory in upstate New York with a history stretching back to the 19th century is scheduled to close in March. A letter from the company to union officials said that RemArms, the current version of Remington Arms, will close its facility in the Mohawk Valley village of Ilion around March 4. Fifty oil companies representing nearly half of global production are pledging to reach near-zero methane emissions and end routine flaring in their operations by 2030. That is according to president of this year’s U.N. climate talks, Sultan al-Jaber. Environmental groups pushing for a phase out of fossil fuels criticized the pledge, calling it a “smokescreen.” The pledge included major national oil companies such as Saudi Aramco, Brazil’s Petrobras and Sonangol, from Angola, and multi-nationals like Shell, TotalEnergies and BP. The United States is now committed to the idea of phasing out coal power plants, joining 56 other nations in kicking the coal habit. Saturday's announcement by U.S. Special Envoy John Kerry has America joining the Powering Past Coal Alliance, which means the Biden Administration commits to building no new coal plants and phasing out existing plants. No date was given for when the existing plants would have to go, but other Biden regulatory actions and international commitments already in the works have already meant no coal by 2035.

A protester is in critical condition after setting themself on fire outside the Israeli consulate in Atlanta. A security guard who tried to intervene was also injured. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said a Palestinian flag found at the scene was part of Friday's protest. He said investigators did not believe there was any connection to terrorism and none of the consular staff was ever in danger. Authorities did not release the protester’s name, age or gender. The U.S. Navy plans to use inflatable cylinders to lift and roll a jet plane off a coral reef in Hawaii before removal from the ocean waters where the aircraft crashed. A Navy commander says they are confident the operation can be carried out without further damaging the reef. The P-8A crashed into an environmentally sensitive bay on when it overshot the runway at Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Nov. 20. None of the nine people on board at the time were injured. South Korea has launched its first military spy satellite, a little over a week after rival North Korea claimed to put its own spy satellite into orbit for the first time. A federal appeals court has ruled that Texas must move a floating barrier on the Rio Grande that drew backlash from Mexico. Michigan regulators have approved a $500 million plan to encase in a protective tunnel a portion of an oil pipeline that runs beneath a channel connecting two Great Lakes. A federal correctional officer has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for sexually abusing two inmates at a women’s prison in California where the warden and other employees were charged with similar conduct. Russia abstained from the unanimous vote to end UNITAMS, the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan. A federal jury in Illinois has delivered a verdict of $17.7 million in damages to several major food manufacturing companies who sued egg producers over a conspiracy to limit the supply of eggs in the U.S. years ago.
