A collection of new poems dedicated to slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was released by PEN International, in conjunction with PEN Malta, to commemorate the journalist’s dedication to freedom of expression. PEN International president Jennifer Clement said the poetry memorial is “a tribute to Daphne’s courage and her fearlessness”. “As we continue to honour her memory and bravery, we are reminded of the shocking and relentless harassment and threats she and her family have had to endure, which continue to this day,” Clement said. When Malta faced and lost twice to Slovenia (0-1, 0-2) during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, the Maltese public was quite satisfied with the result obtained against a team sitting in the top half of the FIFA rankings. Villa Messina in Rabat celebrated its 25th anniversary on August 31. As of last Tuesday, August 31, the amount of compensation consumers can request when filing a claim with the Consumer Claims Tribunal increased from €3,500 to €5,000. New tribunal fees also apply as from this date. While the minimum fee is now €9.50 for claims that do not exceed €580, the maximum fee is €30 for claims between €3,500 and €5,000. The Pilatus Bank saga is entering a new stage. The police have started legal action against the bank and its former head of compliance and legal department.
