The criminal courts there had told the media that the accused was believed to have moved outside of Germany in April 2014 with her then five-year-old daughter, even though the father had custody of the child. In 2015, she was with her daughter in Malta and sometime later... Читать дальше...

Unregularised 'rejected' migrants living in 'big prison' called Malta

NGOs have called for a clear pathway to regularise rejected asylum seekers still living in Malta today, saying that the law does not provide certainty for asylum seekers. Rejected asylum seekers were granted Temporary Humanitarian Protection (THPN) in 2012, but the government threatened to strip people of this status last year when a review process of the system was announced, JRS director Katrine Camilleri said. The threat was subsequently shelved, amid appeals from the President and the media, among others. Читать дальше...

Tight race to lead South Africa's ruling ANC

The African National Congress (ANC), South Africa's only ruler since the end of apartheid, votes this weekend in a race too close to call to replace Jacob Zuma as party leader with the winner also likely to become the next president. The election is perhaps the most pivotal moment for the ANC in its 23 years of power. Scandal and corruption allegations have tainted Zuma's presidency and the party that launched black majority rule under Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nelson Mandela is now deeply divided, its image tarnished at home and abroad. Sleep problems tied to female infertility

Non-apnea sleep disorders may increase women's risk for fertility problems, a recent study suggests. Previous research has linked sleep apnea with infertility. But the current study looked only at women with other types of sleep disorders, offering fresh evidence of the need for women to pay close attention to healthy habits that can help with sleep if they're trying to conceive, said lead study author Dr I-Duo Wang of the Tri-Service General Hospital and National Defense Medical Center in Taipei, Taiwan. New strip club close to Richard III's grave? No thanks, say residents

A bid to open a new strip club is being opposed because it is too near the resting place of a former English monarch. The proposed site in Leicester city centre is inappropriate due to its close proximity to Richard III's tomb, a councillor has said. Jagdeep Narll has sent in an application to the city council to open the sexual entertainment venue in Millstone Lane, Leicester, despite claims it would be a "particularly unsuitable location". General Data Protection Regulation – the elephant in the room

The EU’s data protection laws have long been regarded as the gold standard in the protection of personal data. McCartney's enduring love for Mull of Kintyre

Paul McCartney has spoken about his enduring love for his song Mull of Kintyre as the festive hit marks its 40th anniversary this Christmas.
