Neapolitan Gigi D'Alessio arrived in Malta this afternoon to perform live with his band tomorrow at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. Upon his arrival, D'Alessio promised his fans an unforgettable show. Organised by CMC Concerts, the Malta concert is part of Gigi D'Alessio's Malaterra World Tour, which started last September and included dates in Canada and the US. The United Nations said today civilians faced starvation and dehydration in a Palestinian refugee camp on the outskirts of Damascus, where Islamic State is battling other Islamist groups for control. Pickpocketing incidents in Malta increased by a third in 2015, though there was a decline in "serious" thefts, figures released today show.  There were a total of 2,030 cases of pickpocketing reported last year, a quadruple increase since 2009. Pickpocketing in 2015 accounted to 12 per cent of all crimes. Trends in reported crime in Malta in 2015 were divulged this afternoon, by criminologist Saviour Formosa who unveiled the main conclusions of his annual Crime Malta review. Six sessions of specialised health training in Malta will cater for 120 Maltese and international doctors every year, the Health Parliamentary Secretary said today.  Chris Fearne was speaking after a specialised training course in minimal invasive surgery was held for Maltese and Italian doctors at the University of Malta in the last two days. A representative of Malta has been elected by the parties of the Bern Convention on the conservation of European wildlife and natural habitats to chair and steer the network on the eradication of illegal killing, trapping and trade in wild birds. The popular Panini football sticker album will be distributed free with The Sunday Times of Malta tomorrow. The official licensed sticker album features the teams and footballers of every squad competing in the France Euro 2016 competition.  The album includes six free stickers, a calendar of the matches and an information section of Europe's biggest national football event.  The tournament kicks off on June 10 with hosts France facing Romania.

The utilisation of foreign unskilled workers on a temporary basis in the construction industry was having “serious consequences” on the number of injuries at work, the health and safety watchdog (OHSA) has warned. “These workers are often being hired and dismissed on a monthly (sometimes weekly) basis. Malta and Chinese technology giant Huawei have signed another memorandum of understanding, once again on a pilot project on next-generation mobile technology in Malta, which would allow faster data and internet browsing. Malta's Juventus Club DOC Malta Cuore Bianconero was this morning acknowledged as the biggest overseas club during a ceremony at the Juventus Stadium. During a ceremony at the stadium in Turin in the presence of former Juventus legend Pavel Nedved and president Andrea Agnelli, Malta club president Omar Busuttil thanked members.  He said the acknowledgement was even more significant considering that the Malta club was only set up four years ago.  Juventus are favourites to win the Italian Serie A for a fifth consecutive year.
