MEXICO CITY (AP) — Forecasters say a disturbance off the Central American coast is likely to grow into a tropical storm that could threaten parts of Mexico, Cuba and then the U.S. Gulf coast. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Michael is likely to form Sunday night and could reach the Gulf coast by Wednesday. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the western tip of Cuba, while a tropical storm watch has been called for the resort region of the Yucatan Peninsula from Tulum to Cabo Catoche. RIDGE, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a Long Island driving instructor has been arrested on drunken-driving charges after he drove off without his students and rear-ended another car. Suffolk County police say 58-year-old Russell Cohen was instructing four students from Suffolk Auto Driving School on Saturday when they grew suspicious that he was intoxicated. The students asked Cohen to stop at a McDonald's at about 11 a.m. They got out and called 911. Police say Cohen drove away without the students and rear-ended another car on Route 25 in Ridge. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a water emergency involving an east-central Louisiana water system after finding out that the system's contracted operator is no longer running the system because it hasn't been paid. The order involves the Clayton water system in Concordia Parish, which borders the Mississippi River in eastern central Louisiana. Health officials say without an operator, the water would become undrinkable in less than 24 hours.

1 Police shooting: Tennessee authorities said Saturday that one person died and an officer was injured in a shooting at an apartment complex in Nashville. The state Bureau of Investigation said Nashville police responded to a call of shots fired late Friday and observed a person who matched the description of a suspect running into an apartment. Officers approached the apartment door and for reasons still under investigation, bureau officials said, the situation escalated and resulted in gunfire between two officers and Sershawn Martez Dillon. SANTA ANA — An Illinois killer convicted of murdering five women in Southern California has been sentenced to death. An Orange County Superior Court judge issued the sentence Friday for 54-year-old former Marine Andrew Urdiales, convicted of killing five women in Riverside, Orange and San Diego counties between 1986 and 1995. MAYVILLE, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have identified a passenger in a pickup truck who died in a rollover crash on a gravel road in Traill County. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 34-year-old Darin Klabo, of Portland, died in the accident that happened shortly after midnight Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene. DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A Davenport man has been arrested and charged in the June shooting death of another man. The Quad-City Times reports that 37-year-old Deondra Lamont Thomas appeared in court Saturday morning to face charges of first-degree murder and a weapons county in the June 9 shooting death of 46-year-old Jason Roberts. Officers sent to check a report of gunshots on the morning of the shooting found Roberts suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead later at a hospital. Thomas was arrested Friday.
