Bruce Rauner's compromise plan to reinstate the death penalty in exchange for even stricter gun restrictions than the ones legislators approved. (AP) — The State University of New York has placed a high-ranking official on leave after a newspaper questioned a story he told about surviving a bombing in Afghanistan and other claims. CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A new survey of young people in New Hampshire shows only about half say they probably or definitely will stay in the state for the next two years. The survey released Monday was conducted for Stay, Work, Play, a nonprofit that promotes the state to young workers and recent graduates, and Eversource, a utility that like many businesses has struggled to attract and retain workers. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A telecommunications tower climber who suffered severe injuries when a ladder rung dislodged and sent him hurtling 50 feet to the ground has reached a settlement with AT&T and others for $30 million. The June 2013 fall in Allentown, Pennsylvania, left then-23-year-old Thomas Jeglum in a coma for months with multiple fractures to his pelvis, spine, arm and legs. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado judge says a man who acknowledges killing three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic remains mentally incompetent. Robert Dear was not present in court on Monday for the routine hearing reviewing his mental health status. The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Dear was first judged to be legally incompetent two years ago. He has been held at the state mental health hospital in Pueblo since then. A 34-year-old man died over the weekend after his Tesla plunged into a pond in Castro Valley, authorities said. Zeitgeist Films and Kino Lorber have acquired the U.S. rights to Matt Tyrnauer’s “Studio 54,” it was announced Monday.
